Tyson could beat Valuev this weekend if they fought.

I don't think it will be needed or smart for Valuev to clinch Tyson.

And Don King is the reason why Valuev ducks the Klitschkos , as opposed to your claim.

I do think that if Tyson could hit Valuev's chin he will crack him after not too much time , but I find it hard to imagine Tyson connecting on Valuev's chin.

Why, Tyson is very fast and explosive, especially against taller fighters. He wouldnt try and box like Haye did, and Valuev is slower than old Foreman.

This thread seems to have taken a comical tone, and perhaps rightfully so..

In all seriousness though, it is difficult to imagine a 5'11" fighter beating a 7'0" fighter, even if the two men in question are Mike Tyson and Nikolay Valuev. Mike Tyson is a top 10 all time great great, while Valuev isn't even top 40.. But for as limited as Valuev is, he has never been stopped in over 50 pro fights, and only decisioned by men who outslicked him. We also have to remember that the bigger Tyson's opponents got, the harder they were to put away, and I don't think he ever beat a man over 6'5". Tyson can't outbox Nikolay from the outside, and I'm not sure if he dig under Valuev's reach and over power him in the inside. He might be able to slip his monsterous jab, and do some body work, perhaps even get some hooks to the chin, but its gonna be difficult to reach that head.. I don't know.. The best outcome for Tyson would be to win a close one on the cards in similar fashion to the way he did against Tony Tucker, but there is still a huge difference between beating a man who's 6'5' and one that is 7'0"..

Bizarre post Magoo. An ancient Holyfield was very copmetitive with Valuev on the cards, after all, and he is what, three inches taller? John Ruiz is the same sort of height and he was able to score enough that you can't put a cigarette papers between them in any of their fights.

Not only do I think Tyson wold beat Valuev, I think circa '03 Toney would beat him.

I hear what you're saying and you may be right, but we also have to consider that those extra " 3 inches " do help to narrow the gap a little, plus the styles issue is another matter... Holy could box a little from the outside, and John Ruiz had a way of lingering around by using his holding techniques.. Tyson is neither of these..... Again, he might win, but it might be bold to say that its a given, and certainly to claim that Mike would just walk in and out of the ring, like it was an easy night's work

To clearify, I think ( and always have felt ) that Tyson is an all time great who should rate about 90 places above Valuev... Nikolay is horribly limited... I can however see some factors, from both a physical and stylistic perspective that could cause problems for Tyson, regardless of a win/loss outcome....

Valuev has never faced a puncher anywhere near the class of mike tyson. david haye put valuev on jelly legs with one hook. Tyson is possibly the greatest puncher of all time. Larry holmes was another who was never stopped in over 50 pro bouts when he fought tyson. tyson knocked him out cold in 4. When tyson hurts valuev, it's a question of how long will it take to finish him, not if he will finish him.

Valuev will do what he likes with Tyson, because he isn't scared.

Valuev ducks nobody, everybody ducks Valuev except bold men of character like David Haye, who knew along he was tougher than Wlad and Vitali combined; it took all of his skills, courage, freakish speed, and a little luck from the man upstairs just to survive the Giant for 12 rounds. Lewis and Vitali retired because they foresaw the age of Valuev on the horizon and wanted no part of it. Holyfield just needed the money and Valuev so obviously took it easy on him. Had it been a serious fight, it would have ended rather quickly.

No way. Ruiz hits much harder than Tyson, you saw the way he laid out Holyfiled with that dynamite right. Valuev just shrugged his punches off, no way Tyson can hurt him. Your right, Tyson will not connect with Valuev's chin because he will be laying on his back in a coma within 8 rounds.

I'm pretty sure that Chagaev is around 6 feet tall but of course Tyson is not in Chagaev's class.

I think that the gap between ancient Holyfield or John Ruiz and Mike Tyson at his best is a little bit more than 3 inches though.

Very true.. And nor has Tyson ever faced a seven foot man who managed to go unstopped in as many fights as Valuev did, but he sure as hell had a hard enough time stopping men who reached the 6'5" mark, and not all of them were exactly great fighters either..

Valeuv was 36 years old, off for a full year and facing a man who was still at least 6'3", and still no knockout....

Perhaps, but such a claim still has its limits, and regardless of this position, he still did not stop every man he ever faced..

Common... Are we really going to use a comparison involving a 38 year old man who hadn't fought in two years, and was about 9 inches shy of 7 foot, plus nearly 100 lbs lighter?

Tyson hammered the living **** out of Jose Ribalta for 10 rounds, but Nino kept right back at him, until referee Rudy battle finally called it off.. Tucker managed to finaggle his way to the final bell in a 12 round fight, and did so with an injured left hand.. Ruddock at only 6'3", 225 managed to take some earth shattering punches and went the distance.. Those are just a few examples, and frankly while some of those guys may be a very small notch better than Valuev, I don't think that the small margin of quality compensates for nearly a foot of height and 100 lbs in weight....

Now to recap, I would not exactly bet on Valuev beating Tyson, in fact I doubt it would happen, but some people here are acting like Mike would go out there and do to him what he did to Spinks, and that isn't happening...
