Robinson fought 62 fighters that where either in the Top 10 or Champion at the time he fought them. He also fought 71 different fighters a total of 108 times that were rated at one time or another in his 200 pro bouts.

In his 62 bouts he was 45-15-2 BUT in his first 37 bouts against Top 10 contenders, he was 35-1-1.

This shows a couple of things, he did box a total of 138 bouts against fighters that weren't rated at the time he fought them and 92 times against fighters that were never rated. But that might have been to keep busy. It also shows you that Sugar Ray had to be Great to be 35-1-1 against those top 10 contenders.

The only thing is that he never did box some of the top black fighters, such as Charley Burley and Holman Williams.

So, right now we have mentions of
    Robinson
    Armstrong
    Langford
    Greb
    Fitzsimmons
    Pep
    B. Leonard
    Ross
    Ali
    Jones

one name does not fit in there. Has Charles a shot? I think he deserves it.

Charles has a stronger case that anyone apart from the 1st 4 you've mentioned in my opinion.

RJJ at 160/168 was a lethal combination of speed, power, explosiveness, feetwork and bad intentions. It's hard to think of a more dominant fighter at any weight class.

From one of the most knowledgeable posters on ESB. No one else has accomplished the same combination of height, weight and success.
