    I have often wondered why some guys just dont punch hard, when they seem to have an excellent physique

    Is it mainly to do with strength conditioning, technique or fear inju ry to hands ?

    What can a fighter do, if anything, to improve their punch ? :huh

    They have poor technique, lackluster physical strength, unwillingness to commit to their punches for whatever reason, good or bad, or they are just really nice.

    It probably has to do with a lack of explosive arm strength with most, and a lack of technique for others.

    And please don't come here with those speed = power bull**** equations because if that were true George Foreman would hit like a sissy girl and Chris Byrd would hit like a Mack truck.

    The transition of energy into the fist.

    Heavy handed
    Explosive power

    You need both to be a true KO artist. Fluidity is key as well as strength and explosiveness. Also, committing to punches is big.

    There can be many reasons, as there are many variables that determine the power of a punch.

    Strength is one factor that has an impact. Abraham looks extremely strong so he punches very hard.

    Poor technique can make you featherfisted. There are many microvariations in how you throw that can have a lot of impact.

    Also, if you're gay, look at how few KOs Maglinaggi has.

    For example, Paulie M. just flicks many punches out there, and in a streetfight, that would be enough, but this is boxing baby, go big or go home.

    Dynamics.

    When you said "microvariations" I was really taking you seriously, and then the punchline and I have to admit, I didn't see it coming. Kudos, sir. Kudos. That was delivery fit for a Dean Martin Roast and Don Rickles.

    Yeah Paulie is a perfect example of feather fisted. He puts nothing into his punches and the way he places his feet gives him no leverage on his shots.

    Paulie Malignaggi is a great example, a very good fighter with not enough pop in his hands, and you can see the way he throws the shot there is no power in it. What makes em featherfisted? I dont really know, many fighters say that power is something you are born with, I believe that.

    Exactly. No fastball pitchers just use their arm to huck heat. Timing, hips, footwork, all play into it.

    Check it. If you got the muscles, that is the engine, but your body is the transmission and you need fluid flow of power to get that muscle on the ground, so the transmission gotta be stellar also, ie Kendall Holt.

    Many feather fisted punchers aren´t feather fisted. They don´t commit to their punches due to their style but when they have to they can knock people out, examples Whitaker-Hurtado or Ottke-Mundine.

    Look at Tommy Hearns. Pure dynamics, but needed some room for his punches to get power, and Tyson was explosive through the rev range.

    Tyson= Corvette engine
    Hearns= Ferrari 430 engine
