I think Freddy Roach is one of the best if not the best trainer out there but why does he discredit his opponents? He basically said all Paquaio's oppnonets we're shot or on the way down and now he's saying Malinaggi is just a surviver and has no great wins. Would it be better to give your opponents respect and there gain more credit for convincing victories?
Have a look at how good his own pro record was and you'll get the vibe. He got his ass french fried in every other fight. Great trainer but ****in lousy when he starts discrediting champions who did infinitely more than he EVER did as a fighter.
Because it's a mental game. Put them down now - it's a confidence act. And you better be confident when you get into the ring. Try to get in their head, tell them they are nothing. Sure, after you win it may seem better if you had been praising the opponent all along. But what if praising him in the first place makes it harder to win? A smart boxer (or trainer or promoter) will take every edge he can get. The benefit of playing mind games before hand is worth more than the potential benefit of making the opponent look good (and therefore more credible). Of course, if you are fighting a guy who you know you will beat - then praise them to heaven.
He isnt comparing to himself. When you achive as a trainer and boxing expert what he has your opinion hold weight. Its not about hwo good a fighter he was. I do agree it would look better for Pac if Roach didnt put his oponents down so much , its working for them so i dont suppose they care.
A trainer should train, pure and simple. You don't need to disrespect champions to have a hall of fame record as a trainer. Look at Futch, Dundee and Steward. They may have said the odd thing but they didn't go the extremes Roach does. The guy is over the top and when he was talking **** about De La Hoya he was making me ****in sick.
There was a huge change in Freddie after around the second Juan Manuel Marquez fight. He became more accustomed to talking **** about professional athletes and as you say, would discredit every single potential Manny Pacquiao opponent. The way he'd **** on Marco Antonio Barrera obviously got to me...going as far to say he tried to load his gloves for the rematch. I'm sorry, but if that was true, why isn't Freddie pursuing the issue further? I really like watching Manny and Freddie train in the gym in videos, it's nice to see them have so much fun with this, but Roach was better off when he was just humble and let his training do the talking. I don't really see the relevance in bringing up Floyd Mayweather Sr here. What you see is what you get with that guy, that's just the way he is. He's not putting on an act for the camera's, he's always been like that from day one. Freddie changed ever so suddenly.
Right or wrong we all like littel quotes and soundbites it makes evrything exiting. Boxing is getting less and less coverage these days we shouldnt complain if people are openly blurting out their opinion as it improves the marketablity to more casual fans which the sport does need.
He made a fortune off of the De La/ Floyd fight and should just be thankful for that. Fighters have thier lives on the line against each other and mind games between them is a given. Roach is ****in trainer, albeit a great one, and doesn't need to stick his face in the mix. He just looks like a *****! He can answer PED issues, of course he can, but slating fighters/ champions does my ****in head in.
Me too. Roach wasn't an outstanding prizefighter, he should realize that these guys at this level are all special to have made it this far. Some respect would be nice.
I don't see why him being a former fighter justifies him slating his students opponents? ...Care to elaborate, PIPO?
Oscar hired someone else and that was it? Roach took it like a little *****. He shouldnt return fire because I believe in backing your mouth up and at the end of the day Oscar would punch the head clean off his ****in shoulders. I just dont like an ex pug slagging off world champions mate, it's sickening. Roach is a ****in liberty!
Oscar did what's became habit. He blamed the trainer and he's done that for years. I agree with you - I thought the game plan was cool until Oscar abandoned it. If Roach had only addressed that then cool but he went way beyond it and that makes him a ***** IMO.
Yeah I couldn't shine Freddie Roach's shoes, dickhead! Unglue your lips from his fanta balls and talk ****in sense!
