"Klitschko isn't that great. I think he's overrated. He's got a china chin, a glass jaw. He's fighting small guys. When he fights guys that can punch, we'll see. "Valuev right now is the most dangerous. He's a 300-pound man. I think he's the biggest challenge." ~Shannon THE CANNON Briggs, former linear and WBO world heavyweight champion.
Rare footage of prime Valuev against a dangerous opponent: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Osf3fMXJRm8[/ame] This was around the time he was handling the likes of Bowe and Holyfield in sparring sessions. He looks like a 7 feet tall Carlos Monzon in there.
Breathtaking. The opponent also has some of the most stunning pectoral strength I've ever seen. As a matter of fact, more so than any of Tyson's opponents ever had.
Magoo, My whole arguement is that tyson will stop Valuev at some point inside the distance. I never said he would blow him out early, nor do I think it will happen. I do not think Valuev has the defense or the technique to be able to avoid Mike Tyson's best punches. I think Valuev will be a punching bag for Mike. I think Mike tees off on Valuev for 6-7 rounds until Valuev is beat up so badly he can't continue. I see him taking some of mike's best stuff along the way, just not for a sustained amount of time. I don't care how big and durable you are, if you don't have the skills to avoid mike you are going to get hit. Valuev is human. He can beat hurt.
It might very well happen that way... Who knows? Maybe Mike would wear him down and destroy him, then again maybe Valuev clinches to go the distance... I don't think this is something to carried away about anyway.. Tyson is an all time great and Valuev basically sucks. But if guys like James Smith, Mitch Green and James Tillis ( albeit fought Tyson when he was green ) can take him the distance, its not out of the question that a man who has never been Ko'd has won 90% of his fights, and has a huge size advantage can as well... But frankly, I don't really care one way or the other.......
atsch I see Tyson in your avatar. Sorry but if you get past your bias and look at the facts Tyson has no answer for Valuev's ATG uppercut and superior physical attributes. Boxing is about match ups and greats of the past just can't compete with the giants of today. Tyson would make a great cruiserweight by today's standards, I just can't see him beating a skilled Super Heavy like Valuev, it would be like Pacman vs. Bute...just not fair.
Tyson by ko. Valuev just isn't very good. He rarely had a win against a decent fighter that wasn't disputed. It's true that Tyson often had difficulties with big fighters, but Valuev is too slow and clumsy to cause a prime Tyson much problems imo.
the eight people that voted valuev must be joking, if not then do everyone on the forum a favor and just delete your accounts. looks like the classic section is being overtook by the morons as well
you cant underestimate being big and hairy. if big foot gets a bear hug on tyson, there is no way out for iron mike. and he also has the option of sitting on tyson
I understand almost all of this thread is tongue in cheek, but what I don't get are the serious posts proclaiming that Valuev's size would make the fight more competitive than most are letting on. No. It wouldn't. As Merchant once said (to paraphrase), all that means to Tyson is that he has in front of him a very large target. If David Haye could put the big sasquatch on ***** St., Tyson could and would finish the job early. It would be a spectacular massacre.
Tyson by early KO. Valuev has no power, speed or skills. He has iron chin, but it isn't enough against fast, skillful and extremely powerful puncher (young Tyson). In fact, the russian giant is another Tye Fields, but with great chin and less power. Easy KO win for young Tyson, maybe KO 1.
