Race definitely plays a part, and Khan himself has been responsible for some of that.

His comments after the Salita fight were a disgrace. He's already rich - off who's back? Mostly white British people who wanted him to succeed and have turned out to watch him from the get go. The lad's out of touch.

His 'fans' also inflame a lot of the racial tension.

Khan is a bit stupid judging by his recent text message scandal. But he seems serious about his boxing so hopefully achieves his potential.

what are you on about? i don't mind amir khan, i think he has potential to beat some very good fighters, but like i've said before, i also think he'll lose to some bad boxers that land that lucky punch. that's the flaw of having a weak chin.

    1) unfortunatly for khan, freddie roach is not the only man he's with as you could see by the weigh-in.

    2) true, but what's that got to do with being abit thick? he's a very good boxer.

    3) i got no problem with his descent, i'm just pointing out that a very small majority do.

    4) he's more known than david haye, but i'm not sure about actual fan base that roots for him. we'll have to see what his PPV sales do, i know at the moment they flopped.

    5) a big mistake that only caused a negative feedback.adding fuel to an already burning fire is not a good idea.

    6) we know this. not all are racist though, some just don't like him.

    7) he is very confident, but lets see how he does in the ring first before chatting ****. i remember he was on about beating floyd in a four round contest, and then not long after got banged out against prescott. fans like you to back up your talk, if you can't, then they're eventually going to get annoyed with all the talk.

This is fact. Well less so now, but the plain fact is MORE people know who Khan is than David Haye. If you think otherwise, your opinion will never mean anything on this site.

David Haye IS well known in the UK. Most sports fans know who he is but he's nowhere near as well known as Khan.

this is true. khan is alot more known than david haye, but the real question that means something is which boxer would people pay to watch more?

For someone who's got a heavyweight title, not half as well known as he should be (but that's not his fault).

**** me, reading the responses on this thread is fantastic. What were you like when you were 17? How would you have reacted to the media spotlight, accolades, fame and money at that age? Do you all recoil in horror when you get sexy pics off of a bird? Furthermore, would you expect the said tart to publish private conversations in the media? How would you react to that? Is everything you do day-to-day scrutinised by people who have never met you?

Jesus, leave the bloke alone. Khan is naive if anything, but disliking him solely because of that is nothing more than frivolous. If you don't like the guy then why comment on him? There is a lot of jealousy here being veiled as general contempt or, in the words of the OP, 'concern'. If you're all such experts, why aren't you making millions as well? Get a grip and stop the hating. That said...

Only Ricky Hatton can challange Amir Khan, in terms of fanbase. Amir Khan has been a household name, not just in boxing but British Sport since he was 17 years old/winning the Olympic Silver Medal, and his TV deal with ITV.

Amir Khan has had more media attention, and he has probably made more money than David Haye in his career..! vs David Haye's career so far.

Numbers don't lie, and Amir Khan is box office.

Amir Khan was built up as some kind of a Icon, since he was 17 years old.

Now that Ricky Hatton is semi-retired.

I will go as far and say, Amir Khan is the biggest name in british boxing...!!! hands down..!!! still active..!!!

Easily in the top-5 British Athlete's in all sports.

I'm loving Khans new persona. He's finally become a bit interesting outside of his fights. He definitely needs to feed off the hate and become the guy everyone tunes in to see get knocked out. He'd make a hell of a lot more money that way.
