Small error on Saddler's wikipedia entry. Claims that he was the first to beat Willie Pep. Not a big deal but this denies credit to Sammy "the Clutch" Angott who actually beat pep first.

If anyone is so inclined to change it...

Pep hated Sammy Angott who broke Pep's winning streak of 63 fights in 1943

Pep claimed that the lightweight Sammy [the clutch ]Angott ,held and mauled Pep, winning a controversial decision. Than Willie Pep went on another win streak of 72 victories, before losing to Sandy Saddler in 1948...If not for Sammy Angott Pep would have won 135 bouts without a loss...No wonder Pep despised Angott !!

:tongdon't blame him. when people trash john ruiz and claim he's not HOF worthy for his style I point to sammy angott, the master of the punch and grab

True, I don't blame Sammy Angott at all...That was his style and Willie Pep knew it , and took the bout...
No shame for Pep to lose to the bigger lightweight Angott...Not at all...Angott would make Roberto Duran look bad with his mauling tactics...Very tough guy to fight and beat, and STRONG...

:goodexcellent point. angott is underrated and forgotten by many, in part because of his style and possibly, because he was twice man handled by a novice robinson

    I changed it to read:

Saddler is best known for his four-bout series with Willie Pep. The two first faced off on October 29, 1948. Pep was the reigning featherweight champion of the world, and coming into the fight boasted a record of 134-1-1 (43 KO). Saddler captured the title by knocking Pep down four times en route to a four-round knockout victory. This was only the second time that Pep was beaten, Sammy Angott beat him in 1943, and first time he was ever stopped in 137 bouts.
