Oh please, Pryors defense is ordinary. Duran is one of the great defensive fighters and Pryor is lacking in the rudiments. It's Pryor's offense that helps his defense but it won't help here.

Pryor is also not Duran's equal in chin. I'm not even sure he's faster. As for intensity, Pryor might throw more leather but Duran's effective intensity would shine thru here. Duran would nullify Pryors workrate greatly with pinpoint counters and economy of motion. Arguello suited Aaron down to the ground, stiff, methodical and textbook. Pryor's unorthodox style and abilities gave him fits. Duran is so much more natural and adaptable.

Pryors defense looked good against Cervantes and some others but more open against Arguello, who had excellent timing/range, although he still made Alexis miss quite a bit and was bringing the fight making him more susceptable to being hit

How can you say he isnt his equal in chin? Pryors chin is a lock ATG chin with what he took from Argeullo, who's power tops Durans for me

Your right Duran's counters may nullify Pryor's workrate but it may not because Pryor has a quality of workrate and unpredictable. He's also relentless even after being tagged, fighting fire with fire

I agree with Johnny Boy.................. Pryor's defense was not good at all........... Pryor was there to be tagged.......... BUT! While being young, Pryor's youth and reflexes aided him greatly........... Pryor was seriously flawed in a technical sense........

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Tony Cervantes DECK Pryor for a brief moment back in 1980 prior to being TKO'd?

he was, he was on the deck a couple of times but typically it was an off balance knowdown rather than being legitimately hurt to be fair

Have a look at numerous fights and Aaron's chin is often there to be found. His basics are most ordinary.

So you rate their chin equal via Pryor taking bombs from a guy that first reigned at 126 pounds? Duran moving from his peak division of 135 and taking bombs from the likes of SRL (a fine puncher at 147) at 147, Hagler and Barkley at 160 and numerous others above his weight only equals Pryor who basically never moved up?

Duran was stopped once from punches in 33 years!!!!! From Hearns no less. He faced umpteen great fighters and many brutal punchers above his own best weight. His chin is so much more proven we should not even be discussing it.

This of course plays straight into Duran's hands and leads to a stoppage. Duran would sooooo hammer Pryor's offensive rushes, especially in these instances. His much tighter technique and suble pinpoint counters would be a nightmare. This is no Dujuan Johnson.

Pryor's skillset would beat some ATG's, but he's utterly tailor made for Duran.

JT hit the nail on the head. Duran runs away with this one on the chin front. The fact is he was still openly trading with monster Middleweights more than 10 years past his prime, shaking off their shots and getting the best of the exchanges.

I would post that video of him taking that absurd left hook from Barkley and staying up, but I can't find it on YouTube.

Aha. 8:52. Could Pryor have taken that shot and have his head stay on?

Duran's speed at the lower weights has become somewhat underestimated, it seems everyone he is compared to nowadays is faster than him.

he was cat quick with single shots and not to shabby in extended combination either.Closed the distance as fast as any fighter when he wanted to, though he could be led a dance by so-so runners looking to survive admittedly.

I think Pryor will face many of the same difficulties that Davey Moore faced against Roberto Duran. His offense may match Duran's but his defense is not up to par. It'll eventually tell in the late rounds of the fight.

    1. I'd agree its a comparative weakness between the 2, but he sometimes uses nice footwork and head movement to make him harder to hit, not as good as Duran by any means

    2. Firstly chin gets better when you put weight on. Second that fighter who started at 126 is 1 of the best punchers in history, Leonard is not a puncher, hes a boxer. You don't know how good Pryors chin would have been if he moved up, if he put the weight on well it couldnt have been. For the intents of this match up at 140, Pryors chin is an ATG 1

    3. I certainly wasn't speculating that Pryor would stop Duran

    4. Possibly but he'd also get hit plenty himself. It would be a war

    5. No hes not, this is no easy fight for Duran by any means, no raw easy mark like the Barkley/Moore types

It would be certainly be a harder fight than Leonard-Duran 1, because Pryor is far more at home fighting at close/mid ranges

Ok, so we've ascertained Duran's defense is considerably better.

Well we sure know Duran's chin held firm even when moving up lots of weight and fighting great or fine fighters. He's proven in stone. Aaron is not. A better statement would be that Duran is atg 1 chin at 140 in this fight. Pryor's chin only really was stone tested vs Arguello. We could list numerous names for Duran.

No chance. Duran however has a really decent chance of Stopping Pryor.

Pryor would take noticably more punishment. Duran is the tighter fighter both inside and out.

Pryor would give a decent account, but there's a real chance Duran schools him here.

Aaron is no raw mark like Moore and Barkley, but man these guys were so much bigger than Duran and Duran was old. Both scenario's do not exist here. Duran is at his best vs the top shelf and those that come to fight. Two ticks.

    Big big statement.
