Holyfield-Lewis, obviously. The dodgy decisions that's gone Valuev's way. Whitaker-Chavez, as well, and the hilarious scorecards after 9 rounds of Tyson-Douglas. How many more? How many scandalous decisions have there been in the last decades where King hasn't been involved?
Oh. Well...shoot, I can count to twelve. Earlier statement retracted. I can definitely count that high.
It's far easier to name the bouts where the King guy did not get the breaks or benefit of the doubt. 1 hand can do it and you can go back 35 years.
That's the feeling I have as well. And if true it would indicate that most bad decisions in recent years has been down to his influence rather that incompetent judges.
The sanctioning bodies are controlled by promoters giving money to them. Thats how they stay in business, not by the local commissions so who is going to have the most influence over them? They appoint the judges for the fights. Don King controlled the WBC and the IBF because he bribed the hell out of them. Thats why so many of his fights involved so much controversy. Thats whats so ridiculous about boxing. You have a local commission that over sees the fight, but business is what carries it out. King was just able to get these fights fixed because he paid for guarantees, meaning his fighter would get the win. Look at the Tyson Douglas fight. Tyson was ahead on one card, tied on another and the judge who wasnt paid off had Tyson losing like he should have. If King didnt have promotional rights to the other fighter, he just paid off the judges through the commission heads. Arum does the same thing, thats why they can get their fighters ranked so quickly. Going back to King, he was able to get Peter McNeeley ranked number 6 or 7 by the WBA, so Tyson could fight him and maintain his status as the #1 contender when he got out of prison.
Ok, to put in another way: how many of the really bad decisions in big fights were just the judges ****ing up with no corruption involved?
The judges know who butters their bread. Same with referee selection. If things don't go the way of the house fighter, those guys are replaced.
