So what? That's totally arbitrary. Yeah, Charles has the better record. The point is if you randomly start taking names off anybody's record they aren't going to look as good.
No one should be top 5 based on one win, in order to be top 5 you have to beat alot of great fighters. Even though i rank duran above carlos ortiz, technically carlos ortiz beat better fighters. Carlos Ortiz beat 6 guys that are in the international boxing hall of fame, duran beat like 3 or 4. Yet duran is top 5-10, and ortiz is sometimes not even top 50.
:tong and i think the issue is that bodyhead is discounting how duran looked on tape. that's the difference between people who place him low and people who place him high. it takes watching duran on film to really see his brilliance. also i think his lightweight resume is woefully underrated at times in the classic in general. it's one of the single most dominant reigns in history. true, he fought mostly good not great competition but his record is absolutely astonishing at that weight
He ranks amongst the very best of the lightweights based upon his run at that weight and his skill. That alone puts him in contention for the top honours. I rank Benny Leonard above him though. I think Walker should rank above him, too...
walker is growing on me, mainly based on his success at heavyweight. i knew his welter and middle resume was top notch but i underrated what he did at heavy
What he did is unparallelled outside of weird alingment of the constalations of Langford and Fitzsimmons, who are both top 10 locks for me. In fact my six is now set in stone: Langford Greb Robinson Armstrong Charles Fitzsimmons Having said that, I sometimes get the urge to swap Sam and Harry.
pretty damn good list :good i can't argue with fitz that high. i never put him there myself but a big part is i've yet to really researched him past his superficial record. i'm tempted to say pep should be in the top 6 but there's no one i'd feel comfortable switching him with
You can't properly appreciate the Moore and Barkley victories until you first understand the sport. Watch more Boxing.
I have Ali next, then Pep. But you think his high ranking can be justified none the less? Does 6 seem reasonable to you?
Sure. But that usually entails grading him on facets like dominance, longevity and h2h fighting ability, where Duran makes up ground for his not so great resume.
Sure, I think 6 is ok. In fact, he's 6th on my all time list. I wouldn't call someone insane if they left him outside of a top ten, but he's there abouts, depending on what you want to emphasise.
