i have jones rated very very high, based on skill but not resume. i may have embelished a bit but yes: duran has a significantly better ledger
Duran's nuts have been sucked on so hard, for so long, by so many people, that his sack has been eroded. Theres no skin left on his balls. If he were to get the same treatment as everyone else and his resume be picked apart, you would see these facts mentioned more often.. His best wins: Leonard I - very close, could've been scored either way. Buchanan - TKO from a blatant low blow, after the bell, shouldve been DQ'ed Davey Moore - a nobody in terns of ATGness Iran Barkley - very close could've easily been scored for Barkley + a nobody in terms of ATGness De Jesus - Past him prime, held a win over Duran when in prime Hagler - clear UD loss, yet talked of as a victory, pronounced better resume builder(as a loss) than any and all wins of Floyd Mayweather Jr Outclassed by the likes of Pat Lawlor, Robbie Sims and Kirkland Laing. Completely excused for all, due to choosing not to train, having cramp and past prime every now and again. Made the biggest ***** move ever in boxing in Leonard II, excused for that, Leonard's timely matchmaking is to blame. Had his teeth knocked down his throat and out through his ******* into the waiting jaws of duranimal, and yet he is excused for this loss also. He was a great fighter, a top 3 lightweight atleast and a top 30 p4p guy. H2h he is not unbeatable at LW, like many will have you believe. At WW, SSJ1 Duran(Montreal) is not a top 3 h2h guy, unbeatable by all but SRR(the greatest) and Hearns(who the Robertards cannot justify), like many will have you believe. And Nigel Benn would push his ****ing **** right up at MW, a fight which many will have you believe he takes clearly. You need a myriad of excuses and exceptions all in his favour to justify a top 10 p4p spot.
You like Mickey Walker huh? What do you see on film about him that you like so much? Do you think he is top 5 all time at any particular weight class? No doubt he demonstrated he could fight at a world class level from welterweight-heavyweight. He was a pitbull. Also how do you feel about the way he ducked top contender harry smith?
I don't know anything about Harry Smith, so let me have it on that one. But yeah, I rate Walker. He was champion and WW, MW was probably his best weight but he certainly would have benefited from a LMW division. On film he appears to have really decent smarts and is hard to hit clean. Taken with his brawlers style, heart, chin, stamina and decent power you have quite a concoction. He needed it, driving all the way to the top of the HW division to a final eiminator. I'd consider him more qualified for the very top honours than Roberto Duran, so I have him high.
Okay sorry, I mistook you for someone else. There is someone with a the same or a similar ava. Oh, yeah it is. Alone his win over Leonard is better than anything Jones did his whole career. This content is protected
He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest lightweights to ever live. He is arguably the greatest lightweight to ever live. That alone makes an arbitrary top 10 feasible. It's interesting though that you complain someone had him above Ali, based on all those losses you mentioned that took place past his prime and above his natural weight class. If you do that, you have to include Ali's losses to the likes of Spinks and Berbick. Are you going to put someone with losses to Spinks and Berbick on your all-time top 10? I think you would when you take into account that it wasn't the ATG Ali that fought those guys. The same thing should be considered when it comes to Duran.
Ali was in his late thirties when he lost to those guys. Duran was only 30-31 when he quit against leonard and got schooled by laing and benitez. You can make any excuses you want for those fights, Ali is better and his resume is certainly better. Muhammad Ali is the best post-1960 fighter, not Roberto Duran.
His fight with Walcott should be counted as a win too. Yeah Langford is my number 5, whilst Greb is numero uno for me. Langford has a better resume than Benny Leonard for mine, quite a bit better actually, especially if we take account of his performances against larger men. But dominance is a big factor in my p4p listings and Benny was pretty damn dominant. I have no issue at all with someone ranking Langford higher than Leonard. Depending on how much you emphasise the strength of his resume he can really be up there all time. Bar Greb and Charles I think he has the next best group of wins.
I notice you failed to recognize that he was also in his 73rd fight, and fighting two weight classes above his natural weight. You're not going to be rational about this anyway, so there's no point in going any further. One could just as easily start point out that Ali never once beat a p4p ATG. Foreman, please, he didn't even know how to box, and his subsequent losses proved it. The prime Frazier whupped his ass, and don't even try it with Sonny Liston. Of course I'm just playing devil's advocate. It's total BS to say Ali wasn't a top 10 ATG. But someone with some stupid, irrational hatred isn't going to be convinced and can come up with all kinds of stupid excuses. Which is what you're doing.
