Unless you get a lucky punch in you'll get battered with a lot of quick combination playing counter-puncher. Khan looks to attack when he wants to attack. And when you go first he covers up and doesn't like that. He also lacks the dimension of an inside game (This is a weakness of many Roach fighters).

I think he's dangerous in that out-side and middle range. When Paulie was on the inside coming in at times he looked weary to just cover up. As if he almost didn't want to try getting in this kinds of exchanges (Even if they weren't dangerous). If you make him fight a fight he doesn't want to fight (And if you push the pace and press him he'll have to) then you can easily beat him.

I'm re-watching these first few rounds and if Paulie moved attacked more and moved he could have been more successful. A younger more agile Paulie could've done better. I didn't realize that Paulie made Khan look bad at spots. He just didn't have the offense and power to bother Khan. He didn't know how to set up that offense, and Khan's jab and out-side game probably surprised him a little.

Maidana vs Khan has a very interesting dynamic regardless of the talent and skill differential. I think a fight with Ortiz, Maidana, and Alexander would be very tough for Khan. Bradley could make it a very scrappy tough fight too, but his reach and length would have me favor him.

    Thoughts?

    *Edit*

Thought Paulie lost pretty much every round, but I think you could've given him round 2 and 3 maybe. Did any score round 2 or 3 to Paulie? Out of curiosity.

I lost an avatar bet on this last fight. Loyal to a fault I guess.

I guess it's those Khan photos that he was creeping some model out with through twitter. I'm not sure.

Oh damn that is Khan isn't it?

I've heard and seen horrible things about avatar bets, especially that David Haye one that's been knocking about.

I gave Paulie round 3. That's it though. He lost all of the other ones pretty decisively. (although he did better in round 2)

Yeah it is. I've heard about the Haye ones too.

Lastly, re-watching some of the fight. Paulie does good at times but his power isn't there to bother Khan. That was really half the problem though. The fact his movement wasn't at his best he couldn't hit and get out. The fact that Khan was so fast made it very difficult. To hit a guy that you can't hurt then move out of the way from his speed.

Khan never respected his power so he knew he could walk him down and dictate with the jab. He ate a few counter left hooks but nothing serious.

To be honest I don't rate Malignaggi as a top level fighter. He's a good name to have on the record but nothing special.

Paulie's only shot was to box Khan but Khan was faster and stronger.

Before the fight, I honestly thought Paulie would attempt to exploit this part of Khan's game. He displayed in the Cotto fight, that he can spoil a stronger opponent on the inside, and land point winning shots on the way in, and on the way out too. But unfortunately, I didn't see any of this from him. Part of that was probably due to the problem of Khan spraying him with quick combinations as he tried to get in close.

This bit of advice will be applicable to the likes of Maidana and Ortiz, who are strong enough to bully Khan. Paulie on the other hand couldn't make Khan respect his power, just like he couldn't make Ricky respect his power.

Even if Paulie did move more, Khan's footspeed (although he didn't feel the need to show it much last night) is good enough to keep up with him. Early in the fight yes he made Khan miss a few shots, but that was to be expected as Paulie's head was a moving target; thus limiting Khan's connects. But once Khan figured him out a little bit, those punches began to land on a more regular basis. After watching it, regardless of what Paulie did, Khan would have had the better of him all night at range.

I still don't think Khan is ready for any of those guys you've mentioned. He still made a few little mistakes, one in particular is how he commits himself too much when throwing the right; thus putting is chin out in the air, and body stance in a vulnerable postion (bad thing to do if you're against an Alexander). Also, as you mentioned he still doesn't look too comfortable in close counters (and clinches), which in my opinion will be his major downfall against Maidana, Ortiz, and Bradley.

I gave Paulie the 3rd round. He caught Khan on a few occasions when he (Khan) was lunging in recklessly.

A lot of good points. Yeah, those 4 fighters would be tough for him. He has tons of talent and needs to refine a bit.

He's still one of the best 140 pounders in this division. Him not looking good last night was partly due to the brilliance of Khan. But yeah, he falls a level short below the Bradleys, Alexanders and Khans

By the way, how long have you been subjected to that avatar? It's pretty disturbing to see on my screen, the guy who made you did it must be a right evil *******.

Khan can move quickly around the ring and has already proved that. So he has no reason or business trying to fight on the inside, he is a boxer, a very fast one, why should he stop using his advantages?

Khan beats Maidana by UD. And then once he wins that, everybody is going to say that Maidana couldn't fight anyway! People are already starting to say that.
