Lets say in general, regardless of whats going on in the fight.

Is a knockout in any round or a sweep more impressive?

In general I think sweeping 12 rounds of a fight is more impressive.

However, it kind of depends on the context of the bout. For instance, Shane Mosley KO'ing a seemingly indesctructible Margarito was incredibly impressive...and more impressive than Ivan Calderon performing a clinic on Isaac Bustos.

Sweep shows the skill and control someone has to be letting their opponent alive as they toy with them. This is boxing, and one punch can change everything. When someone successfully sweeps it showcases their ring generalship.

Sorry, I was typing up my response before I saw this posted.

I'll re-affirm, in general, a 12 round sweep is more impressive.

depends on the circumstances. i would be more impressed with pacquiao outpointing mayweather that knocking him out and i would be more impressed to see mayweather knocking pac out than outpointing him. i would be more impressed to see haye win every round against wlad rather than see a ko. i would be more impressed if khan knocks out maidana rather than outpoint him... get the picture? :good

Calzaghe vs lacy was more IMPRESSIVE but pavlik vs taylor was more exciting because of the end

You can't do that because KOs are very difficult to lump together, for example The Mosley vs Margacheato KO was a schooling/ass-whooping from start to finish for 9 rounds, on the other hand Pavlik Vs Taylor ko was a come from behind victory in which Pavlik nearly got ktfo.

What about if you forget about everything else and look at it on paper.

Does the KO or sweep look more impressive?

Stoppage leaves zero doubt as to who the winner was.

And a sweep of winning every round doesn't?

At the end of the day, they'd all like to end it soon if they could.

If it were me in there I'd like to beat my oppoent at his own game.
If I was in against a puncher I'd like to stop him early.
If I was up against a great boxer I'd like to win 12-0.

Scorecards are kept in bouts that are stopped early too, so someone could sweep every round and stop someone late, like Hopkins vs Tito or any Roy Jones late stoppage.
