Its fear I think , we see these monsters and the primitive parts of our brain think " he's a potnetially good tribe leader , or I'll be safe if he is on my side " so we take to them.

But I aint exactly a qualified anthropologist so what the **** do I know

it's the excitement, and the " i wouldn't like to meet him in the street" sort of thing. i noticed the pattern like everybody else has done years ago, but thought it'll be interesting to see how quick it would take someone to notice the pattern when you put a boxer someone doesn't like on the list such as khan. the same would of happened if i put lewis in the list during his fighting days, but since retirement alot have gained respect for him. that's another pattern you see where the fans gain respect for the more negative boxer during retirement.

I think if Amir beats Maidana it will do a lot in terms of dispelling the doubts about his chin. If he beats the winner of Alexander/Bradley after that, then that would really silence his critics.

But until then, he has some solid wins (Paulie, Kotelnik) along with one over a past-it, overweight Barrera. He's still young enough to prove/disprove himself so I don't see what all the hatred is all about other than the hype he received early being a silver medalist. However, he'll have to prove it anyway, and from all accounts has been respectful to the sport and his opponents in and out of the ring (to the ladies though, that's another story).

He will never ever beat Alexander number one Khan has no power Alexander will walk through him and knock him out and that's a fact!

Feather fisted Paulie is not a solid win.

Agreed. The tread starter is obviously biased. All of the fighters he mentioned from Lewis to Wlad spent years slowly but surely rebuilding their reputations after a loss before anyone took them seriously. Khan lost of the most embarassing fights in history, ko'd in 51 seconds...as a lightweight! He was offered a title shot that same year. Last week he headlined a show on HBO, something even Wlad can't manage. Alms for the poor anyone?

    Terrible, tendentious tread.

hmmm, i'm biased even though i've already posted that i'm not a big fan of amir khan. also what you're stating has nothing to do with the respect of boxing fans, but more to do with the finance. when regarding lewis, lewis didn't spend years rebuilding his reputation, lewis spent years because of the WBC giving permission for the likes of mccall to fight voluntary's, and then mccall lost, and then bruno lost. basically lewis was too good, and was avoided by the WBC champion, oliver mccall. he was avoided by a few fighters during his career. when i think of lewis, i think of a fighter who was too good for his own good.

Khan's problem is that he is forever being compared to Hamed, another British-Asian fighter from Northern England, and that he isn't a patch compared to Naz. I detest Hamed, but I recognise that Amir isn't in the same league in terms of performance.

Khan isn't a BAD boxer per se, but he really isn't that spectacular. The hype is utterly unwarranted. The athleticism and handspeed he started out with seemed to have disappeared in the last two years, and show no sign of return. Hamed had showmanship on the dual pillars of unorthodox style and ornery arrogance, a damn good chin, excellent elusiveness, and of course hit like a man 10Ibs heavier. Khan simply isn't in Hamed's class, and doesn't seem like he'll be getting there.

    No no no

He is disliked because he beleieves his own hype.

The kid has done nothing as of yet to make him worthy of his hype.

His best win to date the other night, okay it's a good building block but lets not get carried away.

Nope, I'm talking about reputation. When Lewis fought Golota, which was two year after he fell to Mccall, he was still busy rebuilding he reputation. That was an even money fight, in spite of the fact that Golota's two best showings were losses.

It's all about fighting styles. Fans like some styles of boxing and don't like others. Casual fight fans (the vast majority, the ones that sell out arenas) love Pacquiaos, Durans, Leonards, Tysons and Valeros (RIP). They don't like the Dawsons, Ruizes, Valuevs, and Wrights.

Guys like Wright, Bhop, and Wlad have to work much harder than a Valero or a Pac to get fan's adoration. They eventually earn a fan base and some degree of recognition because they were so successful and skilled but they had to work for that much harder than more fan-friendly fighters who may not be as skilled.

golota ****ed up bowe, and we all know how respected bowe was, but the fact is bowe ducked lewis, mccall chose not to give lewis an instant rematch, and tyson ducked lewis. the reason it took lewis so long was because he was the most feared heavyweight in the world.
