i am not up on football much but i see what your saying, mcracken has blended with froch ok and trains other good prospects, him and whoodall are both young, but like you pointed out, maybe roach should hold technical seminars, because theres not much doubt he's got it worked out.

another thing to note about the american coaches is that they themselves trained under other great trainers

roach, mustafa muhammad, ronnie shields, tommy brooke, joe goossen etc have all one time been assistant to other coaches.

Roach has been training top level fighters for over 20 years now, and learnt his trade under Eddie Futch.

As with promoters, the number of trainers to fighters is too high - if you look at another sport in cycling, the top athletes all train at the same place, receive the best coaching and work with each other.

I'm not for one minute suggesting that they try that in boxing, but there are definitely a few lessons to be learned. Some trainers even in British title fights look absolutely clueless, they might as well have pulled a fitness instructor from the local leisure centre who has done Boxercise and Kick Fit classes and told them to have a go.

Too many fighters just seem to train with whoever is local rather than who might be the best option for them, Frankie Gavin moved to Manchester to train, Barker also relocated to work with McCracken.

These are the sorts of trainers that young fighters ought to be looking to work with - ex-pros that haven't been long retired, rather than just anybody.

i think learning to work the pads is more important than it looks

freddie roach said that when he first got khan he spent hours after hours with him on the pads to try and get rid of some of his bad habits,

when he was training pacquiao for the hatton fight he kept making pac throw the same combinations over and over again, pacquiao even said in an interview how bored and fed up he was working on his right hook and the same combinations over and over again, to which roach replied he's trying to drill it into pacs muscle memory so when the fight comes its all natural.

manny steward said he did the same thing with wlad, he spent hours after hours on the pads to try change his footwork and the bad habits.

good info, maybe thats were it goes wrong over here, theyve just tippled and hired mcracken, but our amateurs are ingrained as jabbing and hopping machines, how many young boys have packed in when they no they have won, but some spindly powerless open gloved flicker gets the nod from from 2 shopkeepers and a gp, .

He just needs to stay in the background though rather than giving it the big bollocks routine.

He'd spent time with Graham and Floyd sr, then takes a job training the biggest waste of space in the sport and was made to look a royal mug when he came in 9lbs over.

I think the ABA need to reverse the stupid rules about ams and pros working together, that way more ams will end up with the right trainer when they switch over rather than experimenting.

Like people have mentiond already, theres enough trainers capable in the UK. The thing with freddie roach though its not just his own ability, its the wild card gym which is full with top class sparring partners. This is what khan is really benifiting from, training over there is on a different level. Its the same in a few other parts of the US like the savanah gym in texas etc
