What the hell is it with the bears that confront wolverines? You have to assume that for every bear that gets caught on camera refusing go give the little ****er the time of day, there's 10 other situations where the wolverine gets torn to shreds or simply smashed with the utmost ease. Yeah, the badger and the wolverine are badass animals, but it's not as if they are actually capable of winning a full-on fight with a willing bear. It'd be like pitting Jung-Koo Chang against The Big Bear himself, Sonny Liston.

For me, best pound for pound fighter is the fighter who has the most ability relative to his weight.

Ability includes any and all attributes that can contribute to making a fighter better than an opponent in the ring.

The Wolverines are the Peter Keenan of the animal world, making 'the Bear' back down.

To me Pd 4 Pd means if every fighter was the same weight, who would win, simply as that for me.

Agreed if everyone was fighting each other all the time. But just head to head doesn't work, cause sometimes a better fighter loses to a worse fighter.

how does everyone see the situation of actual results effecting pound for pound ratings?

For example, Marciano and Charles fought at virtually the exact same weight and Marciano beat charles. Does this suggest that Marciano should get a higher P 4 P rating than charles, (leaving aside arguments about whether he was past prime or not) or does the fact that charles fought at a lower weight outweigh the victory and mean there was nothing marciano could have done to beat charles? I am talking specifically where fighters actually weighed the same. Not so much where they fought heavier opponents (like Greb or Fitzsimmons).

I lean towards giving the fighter that actually wins the fight the higher rating unless there are extenuating circumstances, but i am interested in how others see this.

I posted the P4P question above for input from others, so I can clarify my own thoughts, relating to the question...There are no open and shut answers...It is like the question if a glass is half full, or half empty...To use name examples...Why is Ray Robinson considered a better P4p fighter than a Joe Louis for example? Joe Louis dominated his division for many more years than Robinson did his Welter and 160lb.class.Was it that Robinson was flashier than the methodical stalking killer that Joe was.? I realize that Robinson had it All, but a Joe Louis at his best could negate this superior all around Robinson type, by ONE deadly flurry, and lights out...My point is that a better all around fighter doesn't necessarily beat a deadly puncher as Louis was if they were the same weight...
Another point ,I remember watching The Ray Robinson vs Tiger Jones fight in 1955, and how the tough Tiger jones just swarmed over Robinson, and whipped Ray badly..Of course Robinson was past his prime in 1955, but the swarming style of the good journeyman Tiger Jones was a big factor...
So I think that being that it is impossible to match legends of different eras, to determine who would have won there bout, my criteria is this...
What fighter whipped everyone of his weight class, and everyone of the heavier weight classes, often, say a Harry Greb, Fitz, Sam Langford, that aRay Robinson, Pep ,Hagler, etc, would NEVER attempt,[ they knew their limitations]...
Therefore I nominate a logical choice of Fitz, Langford, Greb, as the best P4P fighter of alltime...Take your pick...b.b.

    :deal Perfect answer.

Ray Robinson is a better fighter pound-for-pound than Ricardo Lopez or Lennox Lewis because Ray Robinson was better at his best weight and further ahead of the pack than either Lopez or Lewis were at their respective weights.

It has NOTHING to do with the utterly absurd notion that a 5ft 2in SRR beats Lopez in the ring, or a 245lbs SRR KO's Lewis in the ring, or that a mystical no-weight SRR the same size as both Lopez and Lewis would crush them both. This horribly widely believed myth is as ludicrous as it is embarrassing to hear.

Lopez is further ahead of his competition at Straw-weight than any other fighter is in comparison to their class. Then again, the fact that Straw-weight is the weakest ever division historically also plays a part in that.

I'll just admit I don't understand P4P lists. I don't even attempt to do those. Ranking fighters from different eras in the same weight division is tough enough for me.
