Yeah, because the last four times his 71 inch reach faced a guy with 82+ inch reach, things worked out great for him.

And stop comparing second raters like Bonavena to Vitali. It's embarrassingly desperate.

This fight would not even be close.

I'm just saying that if he can carry that skill over to age 37 then that is something..
yes it would. vitali is not s bomber and although he can punch, he does not punch like Liston or ingemar. you're overrating vitali's size and strength. he can be outboxed. patterson certainly could beat vitali. the bobbing and weaving and the hand speed: unseen until Ali.
I doubt vitali would knock ou Floyd Patterson. Floyd would outpoint vitali to a wide UD.

Name a single opponent who has come close to outpointing Vitali or was ahead on the cards when Vit's fragile skin/shoulder gave out? The man very rarely loses a round and Floyd is going to outpoint him? Really? A man who sought out the Tommy Jackson's and Pete Rademacher's of the world for title defenses is going to do what no fighter of the modern era has come remotely close to doing?

    Excellent.

What has Vitali done that proves he was anywhere near as good as Liston, aside from beeing born? Personally, I don´t think he is much above the likes of Bonavena. And I like him, I followed his career since his debut in Germany. He just is not that good, especially not at his age.

Name a single opponent Vitali fought who was similar to Patterson.

Tommy Jackson was the # 1 rated heavyweight contender. Brush up on your history. He was well deserving of a shot based upon his ring magazine rating alone.

I am well aware of his ranking at the time.

    He was truly rank.

Patterson didn't seek out Tommy Jackson though, he had to fight him as the number 1 challenger. Wladimir Klitschko didn't seek out Ray Austin either, Austin just happened to be his mandatory.

If I were to criticize Patterson for anything, it's for fighting the likes of Tom McNeeley (although it was to build up the Liston fight) and Pete Rademacher, not to mention his inactivity. The London fight was obviously a tune-up for #1 contender Johansson whom he fought a month later, so he gets a pass. Vitali is fighting Sosnowski next and in my opinion Sosnowski is one of the worst challengers ever.

I guess I have to be the skunk at the garden party again, but I think I didn't think this was an impressive performance by Patterson. London was a fringe contender at best. That Floyd took 11 rounds to cut him down is nothing to get excited about. Within a few fights London was to be stopped by Valdes in 7, Dick Richardson in 8, and Machen in 5.

I remember this fight and the comments by experts afterward, and the consensus was that Patterson looked shaky and might be in trouble if Johansson was as good as some thought.

I would give Sosnowski even or better odds against Hurricane Jackson. Or Terry Daniels. Or Ziglewicz. Or Zanon. Or LeDoux. Or the half a dozen bums Burns fought. Or some of the bottom of the barrel Louis opponents... Or the crack-addled Michael Dokes that stepped in against Bowe. Oh, there are many more...

You must be joking. Hurricane Jackson beat top 10 fighters Ezzard Charles 2x, Bob Baker 2x, Rex Layne 2x, Clarence Henry, Dan Bucceroni. Far FAR FAR FAR better resume than Albert Sonoswki, even if most of these men were past there primes. Did Terry Daniels, Ziglewicz, Zanon combined have even close to as good a resume as this?

Jackson was incredibly strong, had a human windmill like workrate(never got tired), and had a very good chin. Jackson could walk right into sonoskwi and swarm all over him like a hurricane, never get tired, take sosnoskwi's best punches, and pummel him for 15 rounds without getting tired. Jackson was the weirdest, most ackward fighter of all time, but he was very effective.

Sosnowski is a BUM. A BUM. He is trash. he got shutout by no hope Zuri Lawrence. I watched that fight. I laughed my ass off the rest of the night. He might be the worst challenger in heavyweight title history.

To be fair, none of them got stunned by the least hardest hitting heavyweight to ever live. Sosnowski might be better than Danny Williams though, but he is up there, among the worst.
