Mr warren has uploaded it. From watching it I felt Mitchell won the 1st 2 rounds comfortably but Katsidis just seemed to be waiting for his moment, wasn't fussed by Mitchell's power. Don't think the training or anything really made a difference, once he got caught he went to instincts, Katsidis was clever, didn't swarm him when he was hurt, let Kevin keep punching back which left the gaps for him to attack and gave Kevin a false sense of security imo. Kevin should've jabbed more like Jimmy was saying, as with a good solid jab in his face he wouldn't have been able to set himself. But he got caught and that Jab pretty much went out the window... I think the mistakes he made were pretty obvious, but would he make them again? Will he get the chance to make them again? Will people turn out in those numbers again to see him fight thus generating the £££'s for him to get a big opportunity again? Kevin is a good boxer and could belong in the world class bracket but lack of experience probably cost him last night, his best opponent before that was probably Carl Johanneson who was brutally outclassed on two occassions by a definitely European level fighter. Yeah he beat prescott but all prescott could do was punch, Katsidis could punch and is a master at cutting the ring off, he just hadn't mixed in anywhere near that kind of class before. He could mix it with boxers of that class but on the night not with Katsidis power...
He never should have gone to the ropes. Every time he did, he was getting hammered. Frank Warren was pisseddd. I don't know if he can come to World level. He needs to go to European level.
the first round was close and imo cud have gone either way without to much arguements. mitchell took the 2nd rather comfortably and it all went pear shaped in the 3rd. devastated
Yep forgot to add the bit about the ropes! Jimmy even said before he went out "don't get trapped on the ropes." Should've moved to the sides like he said before the fight but he seemed to forget that and just move straight back, think both the power and lateral movement of Katsidis panicked him.
this. I scored the 1st round 2 Kats when i was there, but when i re-watched it i had Mitchell taking it with home advantage
he didn't do too bad for the first two rounds, but the writing was on the wall whenever he was on the ropes, he just didn't look confortable, and kats caught him a few times. third round was just a brilliant finish really. he hurt mitchell, and didn't let him recover, which is what all good champions should do. very good win for kats. i love the ringwalk of kats, with the whole gladiator thing. love it.
Katsidis wasn't really going for it in the first 2 rounds, yet with a couple of bursts he kept the rounds competitive. When watching the fight live, I felt it was just a matter of time until Kats got to Mitchell.
I know it's easy to say with hindsight...but is Katsidis not an example of really poor matchmaking? -Known as an exciting fighter but underrated really. -Massive puncher -Big/strong lightweight in his prime -Not even a full world champion or former champ, only the interim title holder. Surely there were easier fights than him that would reap just as much if not more reward? Moses for example? Or was it more a case of Warren overestimated Mitchell?
I'm just about to watch now. I've just watched Gavin vs Tait now. The stoppage was pretty bad but it was a pointless fight, he was only going to get whipped. Shove him in with Lenny Daws next, no point with any more journeymen.
This statement is what is wrong with boxing IMO,why should you be put in with an "easier" fighter,is'nt sport about seeing who is the best ? theres too many padded records around and more tourneys like the super 6 should be set up imo to see who truly is the best in the weight division. As for this fight having seen it again i had Mitchell nicking the first 2 rounds but thats academic, once he got caught with the 1st shot his jab went out of the window and he tried to brawl which was a HUGE mistake.Kats was very clever because he went on the backfoot for the 1st half of every round then stepped on the gas for the 2nd half which i reckon caught Mitchell by surprise ~ oh and i still believe Mitchell is too small for the LW division
I agree with you, but at the same time it's not like Mitchell had been established at world level yet, so in that case there would be nothing wrong in fighting the easier more rewarding fight first surely, in fact it would make more sense. I think it was perhaps more that without Khan Warren needed to fastrack kevin to stardom and the WBO was going to be the shortest route to a world title provided he delivered the goods.
I just think the whole team thought that prescott victory was proof thats hes ready, when we all know thats kats is a different animal (in technique, cutting of ring, volume, experience etc etc) You have to remember also that mitchel and frank were really reveling in the fact he was stepping up and taking on a much thougher chalange , knocking the khan fight in the process, so you cant have it both ways really. I also think the media coverage leading up didnt help, he wasnt prepared and it got to him imo, just overlooked how tought kats would be.
