I'd be surprised if it was Arcel, I still hear about him a fair bit around here.

    Whitey Bimstein or Bill Gore

Your saying your looking for a HOF trainer who replaced a HOF trainer of a HOF boxer.

I am not good with riddles so I will let someone else try. I have a Ring 8 meeting in New York today and to beat the traffic I will be leaving soon. It could be any number of trainers, including Al Silvani and Jimmy DeForest.

No, ot Silvani or the oldster Jimmy DeForest...As I posted my guy was trainer for two of the very best fighters of alltime...He was very respected by all his peers...He replaced a legendary trainer, and trained this legendary fighter.
His not being in the Navy, is part of the answer, I believe....

I'm loyal. He didn't get the headlines but I'll stick with my professor at the University of 8th Ave., Izzy Blank.

mattdonnellon, you scored a kayo...It was Manny Seamon...Seamon first trained the alltime great lightweight champ Benny Leonard...His second alltime great fighter was the Brown Bomber Joe Louis ..In 1942 Jack Blackburn,Louis's great trainer died and Manny Seamon took over the training job...
Prior to training Benny Leonard Seamon trained the great British Welterweight Champ Ted Kid Lewis, a tough SOB...
I thought my hint that "I was never in the NAVY ",gave Seamons name away...Took time though !
    I was a seaman but I didn't train Joe Louis...b.b.
