What fight vets 'n gym rats understand, bottom line: It doesn't matter if there's anyone more skillful or hits harder than Money or Pac (all of us have grown up with locals more sure-fire than Robinson 'n Louis, but they fizzled, for whatever reason) Coulda, shoulda, woulda doesn't cut it; it's who can wade through all the BS 'n deliver under lights.

    Pac 'n Money can.

I love some of those, but come on...

Martinez is not great technically. I think he's brilliant but he's not the skilled technician some think. Dawson, Bute, John...no.

Pacquiao's very skilled...he places punches well, goes to the body well with both hands, great movement, nice footwork and spin-offs after throwing certain punches, accurate, great combinations... not as skilled as Mayweather (or Hopkins, but because I think B-Hop is pretty much finished at this point, i'll leave him out). Other than that, I'd say I have trouble naming somebody. Maybe JMM when he was younger. Pac's skillset goes unnoticed too often because of his extraordinary athleticism and speed, but he's no doubt a technician in the ring.

For my money, Floyd is number one tho.

Dawson's very solid...but i don't consider him a future atg or anything. Guys like Galindez, Lopez, his trainer EMM, Dwight Qawi, Saad, and Conteh were all better fighters.

No disrespect for Pacquiao, but there are fighters more skilled than him. But he combines a great mentality and athleticism which means that both he and Mayweather are head and shoulders above everybody else in the sport right now.

Like who? I only see a real argument for JMM and Hopkins.

Both Marquez and Morales out boxed Pac. It's not Pacquiao's skill that makes him a great fighter. It's his speed, his power and his movement.

there aren't as many guys as skilled as pac, being unorthodox doesn't mean he's not skilled, some of the moves he pulls off in the ring you have to either be highly skilled or floyd mayweather, how many guys can time a perfect hookercut while slipping a jab?

Those are two of the guys I would argue. Possibly Dawson. I didn't say there were tonnes, but there are a couple of guys. Doesn't make them better fighters though, as I said Pac's mentality and athleticism puts him with Mayweather far out of reach of the others in the sport today.

If you are referring to the Hatton fight, he didn't even slip the jab.

But yeah I know he's skilled for sure, just not as skilled in my opinion from a true technical stand-point as JMM and Hopkins. As I said though, easily a better fighter than either.

    :smile

Mayweather from a technical stand-point is easily superior to Pacquiao. Greater control of range, greater timing and more accurate punching, a better counter-puncher, far more accomplished defensively etc.

    see this is the thing

mayweather is more skilled at what he does, he doesn't have nearly the same amount of skills that pac has in his offensive game, does that make him less skillful?

for some reason everyone on esb (actually message boards as a whole) is all on the 'defense is sweet science' bandwagon

when defense is only one aspect of the sweet science.
