Joe Calzaghe had the most overrated speed attribute of ALL TIME

agree with everything you say but at the time he was being portrayed as a mini tyson and calzaghe "slapped" him to death :!:

 

Calzaghe has always had speed whether throwing "slaps" or power punchers.

Calzaghe did start putting less pop into his punchers as he aged to protect his brittle hands but a lot of his opponents have admitted that he hits a lot harder than they thought.

So you may not like his punch technique and you may think he puncher's like a girl but the truth is he has respectable power as evidenced by what his opponents say and the fact that no one ever just walked him down, and he is effective.

True, but I laughed at it. I just didn't see it. It reminded of the nonesense in basketball how everybody is the "Next Michael Jordan." The closest has been Kobe Bryant and that took years to finally get someone on that caliber to compare.

Some have also tried to talk about Andre Dirrell as being the same as a Prime Roy Jones Jr.
And Ward is getting a lot of hype right now.

Either way, it was a beat-down of the highest order. I didn't expect that.

 

Definitely overrated in terms of quality, but he was effective fighting that way... in the end thats all that matters.

It was fast. You can't overrate it because we saw it happen.

 

I bet Jones, Hopkins, Eubank, Lacy and Kessler thought JC was pretty fast.

And remember - by the time he fought on U.S. TV he was a bit past his prime.

He used to have a killer punch before his hands went to hell. He basically HAD to change the way the threw punches because of this fact. What's not to understand about this? I don't get it...

Im in total agreement. He "moves his hands" in a blur and doesn't deliver the punches properly. From what I gather he was very heavy handed which means they probably felt harder than they looked but f*ck me they were awful.

If you want to see punches delivered properly in quick flurries then see Leonard, Jones or Meldrick Taylor. Calzaghe? Not in the same ballpark! He had a hybrid style that he utilised effectively. There were "many cases" where he should have been warned for not landing with the correct part of the glove.
