I know this has been done before but talk of it has quietened down in the past year or so. I think it is obvious that there is a certain semi niche/gap in the market for a boxing channel. Sky does well with boxing Setanta did well also and Primetime also has been able to offer a few fights.

I don't have Sky anymore but if i remember not too long ago there was a wrestling channel and a fight channelthey may still exist correct me if i am wrong. The fight channel was MMA based and consisted of two guys in a studio going over UK cage rage stuff and showing replay of older fights discussisng fighters etc. It was a pretty simple set up but was exposure non the less.

I dont know how much a television channel costs but at the bottom end of the scale it cant be THAT much Ocean finance has a tv channel......... Would it be possible that one day two of the big promoters Hatton and Matchroom or Maloney and Warren? Could join forces and create a boxng channel that would showcase their own fighters, bring more exposure for the sport in general, and maybe PPV or get the rights for some foreign boxing German and American on the cheap whilst also showing some small hall shows that don't get televised?

The channel would probably make little or no profit but certainly would be advantageous for boxing as a sport and for raising the profiles of fighters.

Anybody have any ideas on the figures that would be needed for this kind of operation?

I would be in favour of a boxing channel.

However, only if they didn't constantly repeat the same fights.

would love for them to show some of the old fights and showing fights from America etc.

im sure there would be huge copyright problems for showing fights

there would need to be a big merge of powers by promoters and people willing to give a lot of $ and not recieve much back, if any

why not though, maybe a boxing channel which airs from 6 pm to 11 everyday, talking about recent events , upcoming fights, gossip, rumours, some old fights shown, a camera going around different gyms talking to fighters, amateur stuff

it would be great, for us anyway

Wont happen. Not what people on here want anyways, ie a single source of Boxing viewing.

How do you know it is not what people want. Any thing that provides a bit more coverage for our sport is good for me

I am not suggesting a single source of boxing viewing merely another outlet by which the sport and the fighters can gain exposure. as for copyright im sure warren has the rights to all his fights even if they were shown on Sky MUTV still show football on their channel but could have a game on Sky the same day so im sure the copyrightcould be got fairly easily

Surely it would be good for televising a few small hall shows VIP Promotions tried with VIP TV don't know how successful that has been but im sure that it would be good to have their shows on Sky for nothing if it got them exposure

There is a fair bit of material which can either be fairly cheaply acquired or easily made documentaries profiles old fights small hall ams etc etc would not cost much.

Only problem i can see is it would send the ESB tv thread into overload

Warren was supposed to be introducing a channel on SKY dedicated 100% to boxing. But that probably wont happen now as he's just lost millions on his boy Kev Mitchell lol!

When was this?! where did you hear that and if you think he lost loads i refer you to my calculations on the "how much did Frank warren help kevin Mitchell thread" as to how i believe he did financially on the show

I heard Buncey talking about this channel last year. I dont know when he's hoping to launch it.

Well, that show at Upton Park would have been very costly, probably much more than a million to stage the show. But he payed for all that because when Mitchell knocked out Katsidis (like he was meant to) he would become a box office star and generate multi million dolars in fights with Marquez etc.

So Warren financed that huge show and will get no return at all on it. Also Warren has paid Mitchell's mortgages off and debts in the past. So all in all he's lost a helluva lot of money on Mitchell.

A weekly magazine show would do me. An hour with news, interviews, archive footage etc.
Surely there would be an audience for that?
