On what basis? Overeem is no slouch on the mat. He doesnt have great grappling credentials but he certainly has waaaaay more experience than Lesnar. The difference in experience between him and Rogers was alarming. It would be an even greater gap between Lesnar and Overeem.

he has more experience with grappling in an MMA environment, yes. Lesnar has more experience with grappling as a big mofo, he's always been a big boy and tailored his wrestling/ grappling to fit that. And i know i'm gonna get a lot of **** for this, but the WWE years were a good learning experience for him too. Even though it's choreographed and staged it's still making a living tossing big ass guys around, even if they helped with the motions and he was on roids or anything like that. will we ever see him bust out an F5 or powerbomb or some other convoluted thing like that? probably not, but it made him more confident in using his mass and grabbing other people. people tend to discredit the pro wrestling side of his life, but it's stupid to say that it had no influence on him. it takes a ton of dedication to do that kinda **** to yourself every day and he strikes me as a fiercely dedicated person trying to learn the game.

although, having said all that, overeem would be a different kind of opponent than what brock's faced so far. he's used to having an overwhelming size and strength advantage and knowing he can use it to make up for a lack of experience and non-wrestling skills, but overeem's no pansy and could really take the fight to him and blitz him from the beginning before he knows what hit him.

Overeem is now a huge strong guy but Brocks shot is unstoppable and his top game is the heaviest there is. Alistair has good skills and a triangle but not the slipperiness to avoid being hammerfisted into the mat.

ps I'd like to see them stand next to each other, I think Overrem would look bigger, though Brock is a little heavier.

I think he could beat at least 4 of the 5. He just gotta watch out with carwin's power but he is a better striker than him so i expect him to have the advantage if this fight end up on their feet.

Lesnar i think will take him to the ground and beat his ass with his ground and pound. Lesnar is just too big and too strong.

You really think that much of Brock from the mount based on 5 fights? Theres alot of intangibles here. Brock is not proven. We dont know what his chin is like. Overeem has oodles of experience in comparison. He's one of the best strikers in MMA with vicious knee's. Judging by his physique and the way he tossed Rogers he may be just as strong physically as Brock.. etc etc. This would be a dam good fight. But to bet on a man who has a mere 5 fights and victorys over guys that Overeem would simply steam roller is a bit naive.

  8. I dont think it wise for Brock to shot Overeem, Overeem is known for his killer knees. Unlike these other UFC fighters, Overeem has a great kickboxing background. Brocks shoting wouldnt be a good idea at all, it wouldnt work and would most likely endup with Brock getting a quick KO from a knee.

Brock is the heavier fighter but Overeem is a better grappler, a better boxer, a better kickboxer, more experienced and is stronger. More importantly Overeem has the harder kicks and punches that will put people to sleep, for goodness sake the great Fujita (the only guy to come close to beating Fedor) was stretchered off to hospital, on life support and on a coma after Overeem hit him.

If I had to put money on Overeem vs these guys he's my pick everytime...

Biggest threat to Fedor out there right now, very fast and explosive for such a big guy...

Then what do you think his fight strategy should be if not to shoot in on Overeem? Better to wade through punches and kicks to get a clinch? Brock has the best double leg in MMA. Maybe not pound for pound, but definitely with his monstrous size and strength,

Sure, Overeem might be a better grappler but that doesn't mean putting him on his back is a bad idea. MMA isn't grappling and Brock is allowed to hit Overeem while he is on his back. In fact, Brock's effectiveness at taking down, holding down, and bludgeoning his opponents is sort of why the guy is the UFC Heavyweight champ. Brock had really heavy hands that can drop you, but he isn't a top striker. He was able to avoid sub attempts from Mir in their rematch, but he isn't a BJJ guy. Brock is a mostly one dimensional fighter in that he knows to fight to his strengths to win. He can do other things, but they are really only there so he can get on top of you and beat you down it seems like. It would be a terrible mistake for Brock to leave his strength to fight to Overeem's strength.

If Overeem's knees are dangerous to Brock's shot, it isn't nearly as dangerous and Brock not having him on his back and controlling him.

This is a good thread :good

I honestly beleive that barring Mir , Overeem would be an underdog in every one of those fights .

For me , the 3 above mentioned wrestlers would dominate Overeem in terms of just plain and simple wrestling the guy , Velasquez has the added advantage of being as agile and as quick as Overeem , Overeem could catch Lesnar and Carwin by suprise early on with explosive speed and superior stand up technique but if he doesnt , it may well be a long and painfull night for Overeem .

Dos Santos just edges this as a betting favourite for me because he's more well rounded than Overeem and has that freeksh Super HW size advantage on him too , one thing is pretty sure though Dos Santos would just stand in front Overeem and if you do that then you run the risk of being KO'd !!!!!!

Mir Overeem is a fantastic fight in prospect , probably the most fan pleasing match up of all the mentioned opponents , like Dos Santos id be expecting Mir to stand with Overeem at least until he could secure a TD or is getting beaten up on the feet , i think Overeem scores a TKO on Mir .

How is Dos Santos more well rounded than Overeem?

Overeem is one of the most well rounded fighters in MMA, and arguably the most well rounded heavyweight. He has had success in both pure striking and pure grappling. The majority of his wins come via submission, and yet it is his standup that is most feared.

I love Dos Santos, but he has shown little in terms of well roundedness. He is also smaller than Overeem in both height and weight...
