A lot of people are deceived by the media just to stir up tension and so the media can make money. Come on guys look at this way, Mitchell was really giving it mouth before kats fight saying "khan's been found out" etc..but after the fight khan had good words to say about him so whhy would he all of a sudden turn on Hatton who he actually gets on with. It's just common sense guys.

Nope. The tabloids and their yellow journos have the art of paraphrasing down to a tee:deal.

Thread starter appears to have a career opportunity at one of those yellow "journalsim" papers.

Mitchell’s defeat ended his dreams of facing Khan, but the Bolton boxer believes he can bounce back.
He added: “We don’t really speak, but if I spoke to Kevin I would tell him to keep clear of distractions and stay in the gym.
“If he lets things away from boxing get to him, he isn’t going to achieve anything in life.
“My advice would be to have a couple of wins before a big fight to get his confidence back and he’ll be fine. He’s a good fighter.”

Good on Khan for saying this. :good

Yes it is, quotes should be used to indicate when somebody has actually spoken those words. Any gaps should contain "......" to tell the reader they are not complete quotes.

Just because some people don't think its needed or correct doesn't mean that it isn't.:p

Mind you, UTW wasn't even quoting paraphrased speech from the tabloid, he'd just made it up himself.:patsch

I love the use of the exclamation mark, really puts emphasis on how out of context the quote is.

UTW used speechmarks. Quotation marks can be, and are, used for paraphrasing and are regularly used by tabloids when they try to sensationalise relatively benign statements. He could have got away with using quotation marks in this instance.

I'm not going to get embroiled into an English lesson and tutorial on ESB, though. I was just pointing out that paraphrasing is common.

Tabloid usage does not mean correct usage. Hes got speech in quotation marks that wasn't actually spoken ,which I guess is fine if you picked your writing and comprehension skills up reading tabloids.

Not at all, but it is commonly employed; which was my point from the beginning. Either way, the racist has shown himself up yet again.
