Ali didn't get bashed for Mildenberger, why is Vitali for Sosnowski?

That has been the story of Vitali's WHOLE career.

His resume is littered with BUMs, STIFFs, Tomato Cans, and No Hopers.

So I guess it's everyone else's fault that Vitali can only manage to make fights with dead guys.

    Do I hear violins playing?

I never made references comparing Ali's record to Vitali's. I intentionally picked out a single, specific medicore opponent in Mildenberger. Just like the Vitali bashers are picking out Sosnowski.

What if SOS comes out & fights the way Leon Spinks did the 1st time vs Ali? Spinks almost decapitated Ali that night (15th round!).

No one excepted Ali to lose. It happens. Spinks made it happen.

    So must Albert.

Because Klitschko has a long history of NOT fighting the fights he should have fought.

    1 + 1 = 2

Didn't the Klitschko's promoter have options on Byrd after he beat Vitali?

Who else is Vitali going to fight? Haye doesn't want to fight him Povetkin doesn't want to fight him Valuev doesn't want to, this guy is next in line

    As said in another thread...

Ali fought (and beat) some of the greatest heavyweights of the latter part of the last century.

    Vitali didn't.

Sosnowski doesn't improve his record. A record which desperatley needs improving if he is to be considered an all time great.

And my point was that he was asked who Vitali should fight if not Sosnowski and the only name he could come up with is a light heavyweight who had the crap beaten out of him in his last fight. The guy whose win over Vitali YEARS ago was due to a shoulder injury. Prime Byrd gets KOd by Sosnowski.

Vitali may very well lose to Sosnowski- if he injures his shoulder again like against Byrd. That is pretty much the only way either had a chance against Vitali.

1+1 may equal two, but you have yet to name ONE SINGLE opponent whom Vitali SHOULD fight but chose not to. 0 + 0 = 0.

Name ONE and then it will = 1. Name another and THEN you can start posting 1 + 1 = 2!

Not that I recall. Byrd was a mandatory challenger for Vitali's WBO belt. Vitali beat Hide in Hide's mandatory, then defended against two tomato cans and then lost to Byrd in a mandatory defense.

Therefore I think there was no rematch clause (but I can't back this up with an article -- maybe somebody here remembers better than I do?)

If indeed there was no rematch clause one has to know that the then Klitschko Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl (Universum) had very close ties with the WBO - Kohl and the WBO were like King and the WBA. I wouldn't be surprised if he "convinced" the WBO to install Wlad as a mandatory for Byrd and order an immediate mandatory defense for Byrd.

Input from anyone else with more facts? How was Byrd forced to immediately defend against Wlad?

This is being repeated in another thread but:

    Who should Vitali fight?

There are 8 fighters in the WBC top ten who Vitali hasnt fought.

    Pick one!

They are all ranked above Sosnowski.

(And none of them are David Haye)

Are all eight afraid to fight Vitali?

    No.

Mildenberger was at least notable for being a Southpaw (several of Ali's amateur losses came to southpaws). And frankly, there was probably a desire to set up a Louis-Schmeling type of rivalry, at least in terms of the narrative leading up to the fight. Also, didn't Ali's conversion to the Nation of Islam make fighting in the USA very difficult? That certainly factors into why he wasn't fighting a US contender.

To this day, I doubt anyone sees Mildenberger as a legacy building fight for Ali, however. Nor is Vitali's fight with Sosnowski. And since he is 38 in his last year of boxing (according to him) and without a single career defining fight (at least one that ended in victory), every meaningless fight he does take from now on can and should be scrutinized.

Another genius critic. Actually, there are 10 guys ahead of Sosnowski. Here they are:

Odlanier Solis (Is a mandatory next fight)
    2. Nicolay Valuev (Refused a fight)
    3. Alexander Povetkin (Is fighting Wlad)
    4. Denis Boytsov (A possibility)
    5. Tomasz Adamek (Reportedly wants an easy fight with Holyfield)
    6. Derric Rossy (Never heard of him)
    7. Johnathon Banks (Not much of an improvement)
    8. Samuel Peter (Already got his ass beat)
    9. Tony Thompson (Too old and a Wlad victim)
    10. Chris Arreola (Please!)
