What active fighter could have given a prime Roy Jones Jr. the most problems

What fighter between 160-175 could have given a prime Roy Jones Jr. the most difficulty?

What do you guys think and why?

 

Chad Dawson, assuming he doesn't get lazy in the ring (and that's no given)

 

Honestly None would trouble him too much, Dawson likely wouldn't get whooped as bad as the others but Roy was great in his day.

 

Dawson maybe...because of his height and reach and that he is also a southpaw wich i believe always gave Roy problems.Also i would have said prime Calzaghe if he was still fighting because of his crazy workrate,his chin and his tenacity.Plus he is a southpaw.

I think there are a lot of guys in that weight range that would've given Roy a helluva lot more trouble than anyone he faced while on top at 175. Just about every guy in the current 168 tourney is better than those bums Roy defended his title against.

 

atsch 44-0 peak James Toney shits on every fighter in the super six, as do Hill and Griffen. Roy has defeated around 20 world champs, and people still say everyone he beat was a bum.

 

I agree. I think 175 is weak. But I think Roy, at 168 today, would have his work cut out for him.

 

Dawson would be my pick as well and for the reasons you stated. In 2000, Roy Jones 42-1 took on Eric Harding 19-0-1 and Eric gave prime Jones pretty much the most difficult fight of his career(from what I've seen, I could be wrong) and he did so with an injury of some sort(bicep?). I tend to think that Harding southpaw stance had something to do with it.

As far as I can remember, Chad Dawson has a combination of things that Jones didn't face...southpaw stance, speed, reach and height advantages. Jones did face some of these things but not all of them all together (i.e. Richard Hall- height and reach, but not particularly fast, Vinny Paz had decent speed and was a bull in certain fights but was at a woeful reach and height disadvantage). With all that said, if the fight had miraculously happened, I'd still put safe money on Jones but I think Dawson would give him the hardest possible fight out of all the active fighters.

 

Hill and Griffin? HELL NO! Toney might **** on the Euro fighters in the Super Six, but he surely doesn't **** on the two Andres.

I respectfully disagree. He lost for the second time in his very next fight against Montel Griffin. He was way behind Nunn when he got the KO-11, and could be outboxed.

 

Was there some contraversy regarding the first Toney-Griffin fight? I honestlly don't remember, I might have to look that fight up.

those two would get clowned so hard by toney and jones. the whole 168 division right now is very average compared to these two guys.
