Name some boxers who got "more with less". Giacobbe Fragomeni- He wasn't fast, he lacks power(only 10KOs in 30 fights), and he was super short for his division. Yet he won a cruiserweight belt, was highly competitive with David Haye, and has managed to win or be very competitive in almost all of his fights.
In terms of money and popularity, I agree. In terms of wins, I don't really agree. I actually thought Gatti had respectable boxing skills, decent athleticism and hand and foot speed. He could've made fights easier on himself if he didn't forget about boxing once he got tagged and started brawling. He also wasn't too disciplined outside the ring with his training habits and alcohol problems.
Rocky Marciano...had everything going against him...no natural talent, save for power and a chin and a will to win, was short, no reach, clumsy, slow..but was sculpted into a masterpiece by that genius Charley Goldman.
He also started his pro career later than most that rise to that level and didn't have much of an amateur career. He gradually improved over time despite basically learning on the job. So although he may have started out "clumsy," he did get better to the point of getting his balance together to make the crouch style work for him. This content is protected
Yeah, but Ruiz cheated by constantly violating the rules against excessive holding, and worse, by overacting to get bogus "low blow" calls. Without the cheating, and the connections to Don King that allowed him to get away with it, Ruiz is just another mediocre journeyman.
