Perez tries to jab Mares - up, down, down, up. Mares is simply bobbing and weaving away from the slower-but-heavier-handed Colombian. Mares is picking him off, firing off the backfoot as Perez lunges with ever-decreasing speed. Mares tries a four punch combo to the face and Perez impressively dodges it with some quick fancy footwork and leaning back at the waist but keeping his balance. A good little phonebooth battle ensues, with Perez headhunting and Mares on an excavation of Perez's ribs. Perez now a bit unsteady on his feet as they separate from the exchanges.

Mares round, he's catching up.

Round 12

Mares with a jab and right hand combo. Perez with a hook and right combo. They both swing wildly, Perez pressing forward and Mares keeping his hands moving while backing up. They land hooks simultaneously, then land stiff jabs simultaneously. A jab and a right hand thud home for Perez. Mares takes it on the chin, resets, and comes out swinging like crazy. Perez jabs him and then dodges the counter attack, staying away from the looping hail Marys. Perez stays behind a jab. Mares chasing now. Perez snaps his head back with a jab but Mares keeps coming. Perez eats a nasty 1-2. They both flurry toward the bell, Mares getting the better.

Great round, excellent fight.
