Joe Louis knocks out Jack Dempsey. No doubt about it.

His hands are faster and his punches are far more straight/compact, meaning his shots get there first. Dempsey also doesn't have a jab, meaning he'll have problems getting off

I think Louis in the 8th round with a Paulo Uzcuden kind of combo.

bodhi, I agree with your little guy with the blue face, shaking his head, as I do too ! Dempsey had very little trouble without a jab, that is what a bobbing and weaving style gets you in and under your opponent...Dempsey's 25 first round kos proved that...b.b.

i just watched dempsey/firpo again, my fave dempsey fight, he was a very special fighter, he throws right swings to firpo, and still catches him, most fighters would never get away with that, when i first watched him i wasnt sure but the films dont do his skill justice, after readiing his book i relalised the man knew his stuff, against joe louis it would be a tough one to call but definetly a legendary battle.

I think that Dempseys hands were as fast as Louis's and that his punches were just as short on the inside. I rank them prety near equal is infighters.

Dempsey certainly did have a jab, though Louis's jab is likley to cause him problems.

What made me vote for Louis is the fact that Dempsey is going to be boring in, avoiding punches by narrow safety margins, and if Louis catches him coming in he is in trouble.

On a side note, this is one fantasy fight where the arguments have not changed much in 50 years.

Dempsey was not Joe's equal as a puncher. I don't see it. We are talking about the greatest puncher of all time here. No one can match Joe Louis in punching ability. I think This would be an easier fight for joe, since dempsey would come right into him. Joe wouldn't need to hit an elusive dancing target. Dempsey also had a bad habit of getting very wild and leaving himself wide open in brawls. If he tries to fight Joe the way he did Firpo, he will be outta there in round 1.

    I like Louis in 3.

Louis wins, he is too sharp of a puncher for Dempsey to simply rush in against.

yeah, i never understood why in dempseys book it said to never throw the swing, to put it "into the slop bucket" and clearly dempsey used that swing a hell of a lot in his fights, he was good at it too, was never caught out with such a risky punch. kinda understandable that people think the book was written by a ghost writer, it has a lot of scientific principles which dmepsey didnt seem to have, he fought like a brawler, a very good brawler though, how many others can knock you out that many times with a left hook? how many other brawlers can knock out two muggers at the age of 70? even if he was a brawler he was a good fighter, hed put up a good fight against Louis. sorry to go off topic abit there...
