I am a big fan of Bad Chad and I've been thinking about his lack of fanbase recently. The dude has shedloads of skill, is a two-time titlist, has the best record and is the best active fighter in his weight class, and also comes across as a genuinely nice guy in every interview I have ever seen him in; whether it be for HBO or some fan off of youtube with a camera.

On the flipside of that, I accept criticism that comes his way as well. He takes his foot off of the gas when he should be bossing rounds, his style isn't mass-fan-friendly and he can come across as 'boring' and overtly cautious to those who don't like watching pensive well-schooled fighters, and he is stuck in a pretty crap division full of geriatrics he has either beat, or who don't want to face him for a whole host of reasons (B-Hop); Pascal and Cloud have breathed some life into the division in the last year, though. As mentioned, he comes across as a nice dude as well and, as he is so passive for a fighter, does this also stack-up against him? He isn't the sort of person who fans either love or hate and talk about because of his mouth, and he is too respectful to call someone out or talk his way into a fight.

As a result of all of this, he doesn't have many fans and I think it's a crying shame as his talent deserves it. Any other reasons? What can he do to get more fans?

I think you pretty much nailed why doesn't have more fans. I'm not a fan but he is one of the best athletes in the sport, imo. I like that he's a nice guy but all the anti-killer attitude reasons that you list really don't excite or inspire me to fandom. I do basically consider him the uncrowned king of the division though.

What he needs to do is keep winning and dominate 175. The fights will come when the bigger names at 168 decide to move up. His fight against Pascal is a step in the right direction. I think he's a great fighter but you need patience as well to make it in this sport.

 That reminds me of Don King telling Larry Holmes "People would rather watch you watching Ali than watch you."

Its mostly down to lack of personality. Hopkins and Mayweather aren't exactly exciting fighters to the average guy, but they talk the talk.

Dawson and Williams both suffer because of dullness/shyness.

weak division. but as others have stated, just keep winning and they can't ignore you forever. someone will want to move up and try him. hopkins spent all that time at mw and many of his defenses were against guys who won't make you a star by beating. but the titos and odlhs of the world decided to move up and try him. same thing will probably happen w/ dawson. just keep winning.

If only I thought Dawson was as durable as Hopkins, I might think he'd end up doing the same thing, Dbouziane.

this is a valid point. hopkins is a freak of nature, really. durability will be a major factor if he is to get the big money/big name fights through sheer number of defenses like hopkins did.

He should challenge one of the Dirrell brothers after they win a title. Perhaps move down to 168. If he chooses to stay at his natural weight of 175 this wouldnt be such a bad idea either but he has to take on Cloud and wait a couple years for the super six contenders to move up in weight. If he unifies the titles they'll have to challenge him.
