I dont mean the current version i mean Pre - Calzaghe. The way people dismiss Joes win now is unreal. Lacy was a very good fighter before he got ruined by Calzaghe. He finished him as a Top level boxer. Lacy was knocking out good contenders and looking great , he got wayyyy too hyped but he was still a force. To beat him like Joe beat was a amazing performance and now people dont even rate it as a good win on Joes Resume. It a joke TBH and I admitt Lacy was never great he was limited but that Night Calzaghe beat a very solid champion who was full of confidence.

He was a good champ. But I don't give Joe all the credit for "ruining" him. I think the injury and surgery had something to do with it. And I always thought he was over-bulked and should have been a middle or even light middleweight. Too tight. Moving to 175 certainly didn't do him any favors.

I totally disagree. Lacy was a paper champ with one good win against a past-it Robin Reid.

He'd gone life and death with dross like Omar Sheika and had done nothing to earn the hype he brought to the Calzaghe fight.

lacy was beating all bums and was a hype job to be the next tyson.he was never meant to be great.a champ he was but a champ now he is not.joe did not ruin him to me, he fights the same way.that was the 1st slick fighter he fought with speed and elite level.lacy at the end of the day was a one trick poney.10 the highest in his prime is was a 7 maybe a 7.5 and thats being very respectful to him and his skills.

Lacy was a very good fighter. Outside of the Sheika fight, he was really bulldozing through the division. He had some great fights against Pemberton, Reid, and Vanderpool (I think) and looked to be the real deal.

He was overrated, then exposed as such. He had some ok wins, but never once had a win the truely defined him, only losses.

He had such an underwhelming run after so much potential.

100%. He wasn't the bum he has subsequently made out to be, but also no mini Tyson as the hype said. He was limited.

:deal This. Just so much this. Anyone who thinks Lacy was underrated has never seen Lacy vs the mighty Omar Sheika. Lacy was HORRENDOUSLY overrated at the time, maybe one of THE most overrated fighters in all of boxing history. The guy could hardly string two punches together yet he was being hailed as the new Tyson by some hysterics in the US media. This thread is utter, utter bull****.

I think what the TS really means is 'Joe Calzaghe is underrated big time' - just an indirect way of saying this

I also sometimes finds it strange the way Lacy was hyped before Calzaghe, but suddenly all turned their back on him after the fight! Imo he was actually quite good, but also to one-demensional and he was no where near ready for a guy like JC at that time!
The reason he gets underrated so much now, is because he got completely schooled and because it was Calzaghe who did it! If a guy like Hopkins had put that beating on him i doubt he would gotten so much flak!
