Well the boxing board isn't exactly the place for this discussion, but patriotism is more than just blindly supporting your country. To me "Born in the USA" is much more patriotic than some song about an eagle flying around a mountain or some ****.

However, I seriously doubt Mayweather was considering the post-vietnam political landscape.

A rather obscure one...Al Berstein is a fine fight announcer, we all know that, but some years ago he recorded an album..he sings..........well, he recorded a mushy, mawkish, syruppy ballad about Joe Louis..I heard it and I was embarrassed.
Another was when Leotis Martin ko'ed Sonny Liston, Howard Cosell interviewed the winner in the ring and poor Leotis COULD NOT be understood, the poor guy..he sounded borderline ******ed.

Saw Bazooka Limon pull a guy's trunks down to his knees in a clinch

Remember seeing a guy open his robe when he was introduced and he had no trunks.

Saw a big beefy heavyweight go back to his corner at the bell and sit on his stool with his legs crossed.

Saw a kid in the NY Golden Gloves knock his opponent down and keep kickin' him in the head. The referee and both corners tried to grab hold of him but he jumped outta the ring and ran outta the arena in just his trunks. It was mid winter and below zero.

the fact that you would mention the song in its self is stupid seeing how nobody except for true fans of that artist know anything but the actual lyrics outside of the hook...

    here are some good examples

Hopkins vs. Jones II was arguably the worst moment of my boxing life.

Yep, and questioning some of the questionable issues about a country isn't to put the country down. Springsteen loves America and his music embodies the soul of the country, so it's harding anti-American to play any of his songs.

This is true -- you could argue that the song is patriotic in how it seems to despair over the state of the country, or the way the country was being run, as opposed to its true potential. It almost feels like a song of hope as much as it is condemnation. (Although I always feel like there's more bitterness there than anything else, but it's naturally quite subjective.) As you also point out, though, the Vietnam implications likely went completely over Floyd's head, and it hardly seems relevant for a ringwalk.

Utter rubbish. I've only heard two of his songs, including that one. I'm not even a casual fan, let alone a 'true' one. I'm just able to listen to more than the chorus, hardly a rare talent.

Anytime a boxer starts going on about God. Particularly in post fight conferences. The adrenalin is pumping they feel great (if they won!) and they interpret that as some kind of religious experience. I know they arent the brightest bunch but bloody hell. I love the notion that god would favour one of the fighters over the other! lol

Please no bronze age mythology and cultism in sport.

Im thinking mainly Naseem Hamed and Tyson. Here is one example.
