These two men are on a collision course to meet in the Octagon later in 2010. Fedor, of course has to defeat the good, but not great, Fabricio Werdum, on June 26th in San Jose, CA. Fedor's management M1 Global say they Fedor will fight anyone put in front of him. The excellent Josh Barnett fight was cancelled due to Barnett's positive test result for a banned substance. Now Overeem, based on his impressive gains in body mass and destructive power, looms as the biggest threat to Emelianenko's dominance since Cro Cop in 2005.

The questions are: Has Fedor's legendary dedication and skills diminished in the last couple of years? Overeem is bigger, stronger, just as explosive, and probably more athletic than Cro Cop even at his destructive best a few years ago. Can Fedor deal with this kind of opponent at this particular juncture of his career?

Bas Rutten exclaimed that Fedor was the master of strategies during his brilliant performance against a prime Cro Cop in 2005. Can the Russian, assuming he disposes of Werdum which he should, nullify the Dutchman's advantages in size, strength, etc? If anyone can it is definately Fedor.

Never bet against Fedor, even mid fight and it is looking bad. However we want to see him against the biggest challenges. Rogers, Choi and Lindland are not those challengers!

Overeem is big, strong, powerful, relatively fast, has quality stand up and isn't too shabby on the ground. He is also on a hot run. His 1NC to Cro Cop is pretty much a win in my eyes as I'm sure he was en route to battering him.

I think Overeem is a beast but after 1 round and realising Fedor isn't going to crumble, he'll find out why Fedor is so ****ing good and always finds the answer.

Fedor is old though and at this stage you've got to monitor him fight by fight. Same issue with Vitali and others. They are better fighters but sometimes you can't fight father time.

If he can avoid going to the mat than yes Overeem can beat Fedor, I believe Alistair has the superior striking skills but needs to keep the distance between himself and the Russian.

Overeem has been stopped several times. I think Fedor will spark him out at some point could be hairy before that though.

I dread the day Fedor loses and wankers start saying he wasn't that great.

Fedor. Alistair Overeem is over rated. He does everything good but Fedor does everything great.

I'm going with Fedor, but the man isn't getting any younger and is showing signs of slowing.
If he show's up 70% of his old self he'll take this.

Overeem does present one hell of a challenge on paper. The guy has world classi striking hes proved this by destroying some of the best in K-1 his knees, punches (ask Badr Hari) and kicks are devestating. Overeem has strong wrestling, vicious GNP and really good submission skills plus hes gigantic hes like 6'5 245 right now. One thing that stands out to me though is Overeem likes to be the bully in his fights and mentally own guy and get them out in the 1st 2 rounds. You cant break Fedor's will even if Overeem puts him in trouble Fedor will just keep on fighting and hes so dangerous from ever spot he will always remain competitive. I think Fedor's much superior conditoning would be his biggest strength and I think a fast pace would exhaust Overeem by the 3rd round and then its time for Fedor to take over. I like Fedor by GNP in 4 in a epic fight.

I like this post. Yes, Overeem has advantages on paper. He is bigger, younger, heavier, and maybe even stronger although how that came to be could be a whole different thread. We've seen Fedor face adversity time and time again. The punch that wobbled him in the Fujita fight. Being slammed onto his head by Randleman. Having his nose broken by Cro Cop and bloodied by Rogers. Time and time again he faces adversity in fights and still pulls them out. This is what the great one possess.

Having said that Overeem could just be too much of too many different things at this point. Fedor, although he won in impressive fashion, did not look razor-sharp against either Arlovski or Brett Rogers. But facing other great fighters often brings out the best and Fedor is well aware of how dangerous Overeem is.

Look for Fedor to be very careful of Overeems devastating knees and extremely cautious in the first round. Overeem will rock Fedor with punches and the Russian has shown a succeptibility to suffering facial cuts. However, they don't call Fedor the cyborg for nothing. Fedor will not panic and if he sees even a tiny opening he will land something. If this occurs expect to see a similar ending to Fedor's fight with Rogers.

A bloodied but unbowed Fedor by strikes in the 3rd of a fight for the ages.

This is Fedor's most dangerous opponent in quite some time....

    I'd say 50-50 right now.....
