So many great brawls.... I miss seeing scraps with exciting fighters at the Blue Horizon, which I think is the best boxing venue ever. Rocky Gannon, Jimmy Thunder, Vinny Pazienza, Charles Brewer. I even miss Sean O Grady's lousy commentary. Every single show, without fail, he would say that fighter B describes himself as a boxer puncher. Anybody else really miss this programming? If you grew up in the 80's and 90's, you definitely owe alot of your love of boxing to this dependable, easy to access program that was foolishly cancelled.
We loved it back in the day.. Me and my boys in school watched and taped it all the time. Where we lived they rebroadcasted at midnight so in case you missed it you got a second chance. Tons of great memories from that show. I remember when Ray Mercers crew almost came to blows with Riddick Bowes crew after Bowe had knocked out Phil Brown on air. I remember James Toney coming into the ring at the Palace in Auburn Hills after Tyrone Trice challenged him and telling Trice to bring his ass cus they could get busy right now. Loved watching Foremans comeback on there then Holmes. I remember Douglas being knocked out by Monaco, Tubbs being knocked out by Butler.. I could go on and on!! GREAT SHOW!!
I remember Mexican Heavy weight hope Alex Garcia coming up on USA tuesday night fights. Also remember Kostya Tszyu-Hector Lopez ,Tapia-Martinez and countless more. This was back when i could catch fights on at least 4 to 5 days out the week. USA,FSW,ESPN,Spanish stations and whatever else was going on weekends.
I miss it, too! I also miss the Cavalcade of Sports and the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports. They ran in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. I saw some great fights on the television!
I believe the incident where Rock Numan grabbed Riddick Bowes opponent from behind also took place on TNF, if I remember correctly. Crazy ****.
I was an avid viewer of the USA cable network and loved Tuesday night fights ( also sometimes moved to thursdays. ) Al Albert and Sean O'Grady had a great show, and showed a lot of good fights.... George Foreman, Tim Witherspoon, Riddick Bowe and several other very good heavy weights had quite a few showings on there... I'll never forget the time when undefeated Olympic medalist and light heavy weight propsect Anthony Hembrick stepped in the ring wih Booker T. Word... Hembrick was highly tauted and though by some to be the next light heavy champ... After a huge entry and all sorts of fire works, Booker Word knocked him out in one round in front of Hembrick's home town.......CLassic........
I remember that one, or at least the first fight.. Tillery started kicking Bowe and fighting dirty, before things got really ugly..
See this is what's wrong with boxing nowadays. Cancelling programs like these limits the general audience from seeing fights without having to buy PPV's. Im too young to remember Tuesday Night Fights(sigh.....) but I've always supported shows like them being on.
