Hein Ten Hoff KO 2 Wilson Kohlebrecher 1950

He's not the tomato can he is made out to be by some. Not a great fighter either, but a solid fringe contender type who once built himself a nice unbeaten record until facing Jersey Joe.

 

Funny, the last two weeks I've been doing research on Hein for one of his nephews here in the states. He had a really good early record and yes the man could wack. He looked to be in good shape for his last bout with Ingo but found out just why Patterson said the Swede hit harder then Liston. Its too bad his career had to end on that note though. Later he acted in later 50's early sixties German TV. I was suprised how much his nephew (now in his seventies) looks like he did. There are several video's of his fights available online including rounds of him vs Walcott. He also had close to 200 amatuer bouts and was on the German national team.

Hein Ten Hoff wasn't world class, he was a competent European champion though.
I dont see any real names in his win column, apart from a 40-year-old Walter Neusel.

Historically he rates along with Evangelista or Tangstad, who both received (undeserved) shots at the world title.

 

Tangstad was a bum, he lost to the most laughed-at swedish boxer Anders Eklund....It was said that Eklunds best place for sponsorlogos was under his boxingshoes:roll:

Was Hein Ten Hoff much better ?

 

Two months before this fight. Hoff lost comprehensively to Joe Walcott,Peter Wilson, the English scribe was of the opinion that Walcott could have stopped the big guy if he had wanted to.
Hoff was a good,European level fighter and could dig a bit as we saw,did you know he once sparred with Marciano?

Hein Tenhoff was actually a pretty good fighter.. McGrain posted a clip of him fighting Walcott I think, about a year ago. It was the first time I had ever seen Ten Hoff in action, and I was impressed by how fit he looked and the way he used his height effectively.. He had decent boxing skills and managed to comprise a respectable record early in his career.

 

Tangberd and Sys were two good Euro fighters from around this time(bit earlier) who were of the level of lower top 10 Americans who were much better known than them.
