While I don't think that the Bonin fight proves Haye is a huge puncher at HW, I do think the fact that he managed obliterate someone who is actually pretty durable (which is why I argued the Audley point) it shows that he has considerable power combined with speed which allows him to land it often before most HWs would be able to evade, roll with, or block the punch. I genuinely believe that this fight is reasonable evidence that supports that hypothesis that Haye has decent effective power at HW, but it is not indisuptable proof of course.

 

He's certainly not on the level of Foreman and Shavers but he certainly hits hard. I think he's generally quite heavy handed, he has a good amount of pop to his punches, and he has a good deal of speed - they all add up to a pretty nasty punch.

He was knocking Barrett left right and centre with glancing blows, and Barrett went on to say afterwards his punches reminded him of Wlads - so definitely hard, thudding blows.

I think his biggest successes are in his last two fights - not only did he hurt Ruiz basically every time he landed but he broke his nose (and cheekbone?), and dropped him with the first 1/2 he threw while on the back foot. That aint bad.

Go back to the Valuev fight - he'd never really been hurt before, but Haye rocked him in the 12th round (so Hayes power will have diminished) with a cuffing shot, throw off blance, at that horrible angle, with his weaker arm. I think that speaks volumes. If he lands, he hurts you bad.

Don't get me wrong, he aint no ATG puncher but he certainly punches ****ing hard.

 

Both Barrett and McCline buckled Valuev.......it was a fast left hook from Barrett and NV's knees buckled early in the fight and he immediatlely grabbed Barrett into a bear hug.:think

 

Haye has ATG power. He is by far the hardest hitter in the HW division today.

 

He's got decent pop, Wlads the bigger puncher though, as is David Tua.

Hell, Lamon Brewster from a few years ago is a bigger puncher aswell.

 

Cuz Jones was fighting very cautiously hitting him less than 10 times in a round? That fight cant be taken as any indicator.

 

I think if Enzo was hit like that again, he'd take the decision to stay down, rather than getting up and staggering across the ring.

I get your general point though. Haye hits with hard, hurtful punches, but he's not a monster puncher at Heavyweight. As a poster above has said, he's not a great finisher as he gets wild when he knows his opponent is struggling.

His speed is a huge asset in this division though.

He wobbled Valuev with his weaker left hand. It's a pity his right got damaged cause I'm pretty sure a few bombs from that would have done the job earlier.
Had Ruiz on ***** street a few times and down 4 times. Add to this if you chose to believe the injuries Haye said Ruiz sustained (Never found a source for this but Ruiz or his camp never denied it either).
Had Barret down 5 times, Bonin down 2-3.

I believe his power at HW is very very good.

 

Almost all heavyweights have good power to go a long career and not get ko'd or knocked down = solid chin = ruiz.

 

Gurov is about the only clean KO I can recall.
Bonins kd's were strange. He gets knocked off balance and takes a knee a few times.
Monte also took a knee rather than get hit again at 1 point.
I think he stuns opponents and physically hurts then rather than sparking them.
He certainly likes a slugfest that's for sure. Valuev was an exception. No-ones going to knock that giant out.

No, but his bravery is.....
