UN ****ING FORTUNATLY, I HAVE TO GO WITH the BIG RUSSIAN. When is Drago going to bounce the two Klits out. Damn it why did this thread get started ,I hate to go against my beloved Jerry.
Will there always be joke questions that are asked for real and joke answers that are given about them for real ? If there is anyone in history to upset Vitali Klitschko it is George Foreman , and then Oliver McCall. With Lennox Lewis it was quite not answered the way it ended. Or maybe Riddick Bowe. But even Ali and Holmes will get outpointed in the best case for them against Vitali. But questions about the likes of Quarry and Liston must be anwered , no ?
Suzie , im in agreement with magoo of the physical disadvantages that Quarry would face in this bout. Quarry was a in your trunks kinda guy, and unfortunatly Klit would keep Quarry at the wrong end of the jab all night.I love Quarry, but Idont think its gonna happen for him in this .
he never fought anyone as good as Sugar Ray Leonard either, but If they were to fight, I wouldn't bet against Vitali...
So your rating him highly h2h despite him not proving himself against elite opposition. So in a way, your gambling on Vitali being as a great as you think he is or could have been, rather than what he actually did.
No...Not at all........I just don't think that he'd lose to Jerry Quarry.... I take more into account than just mere legacy when looking at these fantasy match-ups... I factor in things like styles, physical differences, etc... If you want to start throwing out the Byrd and Lewis defeats than I can just as easily point out that Quarry was Ko'd by an aging Chuvalo, or arguably gifted a decision against a past prime Patterson... It works both ways.... Do you feel that an aging Chuvalo was more dangerous than Lewis was at age 37? I personally don't, and frankly if Vitali was giving Quarry the type of beating that he was giving Lewis, prior to sustaining a cut, I don't think Quarry would survive.. For one thing, he had a much higher tendency to cut and bleed as well as get decked than Vitali did... He was about 7 inches shorter and 60 lbs lighter, and would be facing a man who fights tall very, very well... Quarry did best when punchers took the action strait to him, giving him a chance to counter their attacks... How is countering going to work against a much larger fighter who prefers to stay on the outside and jab with his reach from a distance? How many of Quarry's shot do you think that Vitali can take, as opposed to Quarry doing the contrary? I don't have a problem comparing legacies or how many ring ranked opponents beat over another, but let's talk about styles, athleticism, etc... This **** of flashing a legacy badge gets old after a while... By your Logic Jim Corbett should have beaten Vitali too...
Vitali would beat Quarry senseless, I'd feel sorry for Quarry because he'd have too much heart for his own good in there. Quarry probably has a better resume than Vitali but when you start factoring in the physcial differences than it becomes clear that Vitali wrecks Quarry. Quarry might match up better with Wlad due to Wlad's weak inside game and having a much less dependable chin than Vitali does but, regardless, Wlad would beat him too. Quarry was a good fighter who fought at the same time as some greats or he would have been a champion himself. But he'd be horribly outgunned by either Klitschko. Vitali by ko in the second half of the fight while Wlad would probably get him out sooner.
I like Quarry and don't care much for either klit, although I have gained an appreciation for them over the last few years. Quarry fought solid competition inspite of the ridiculous claims that a few posters have made...And yes, perhaps Quarry is as good as any name Vitali has beaten, but it's hard to penalize them for fighting in a weak era. I think Vitali would stop him on cuts rd 5-6 or completely test his chin and end it in rd 9.
As far as totally ridiculous statements go on ESB, congratulations kid, you're hanging in there with the stupidest posters on the forum.
Yes and Jerry walked through 4 or 5 flush shots from the hardest puncher in history and KO'd him. The point of mentioning Quarry's victory over Shavers was not to glorify Shavers but to highlight Quarry's primary attributes... punch resitance and a very, VERY broad skill set.
I still believe that Wlad is a much easier matchup for Jerry...If Frazier couldn't knock him out in their first fight than neither could Wlad. Watch Frazier-Quarry I, Quarry-Foster and Quarry-Shavers and tell me if you still think Wlad would spark him as easily as you're saying...
I do agree that Quarry has a better shot at beating Wlad than Vitali and I don't doubt Quarry's toughness for a minute. But he's still fighting guys that are simply on a different level size wise and they have skills to go with it. Part of the reason I think both Klitshkos stop them is because of the cuts possiblity. Thats where Wlads jab would really do a number on Quarry, he'd get hit by it a lot. I don't know if Wlad's safety first style would see him actually stopping Quarry but his jab would bust Quarry up pretty bad and I can't see Quarry making much past the midway point before the ref ends up stopping it. I think Vitali could end up with an actual stoppage but Wlad's would probably be a tko.
Philly, I stand corrected as I had never read before the judges cards and only what the Ring mag reported at the time, something I had read in several scribes accounts over the years, that is that Buster led Joe at the time of the stoppage, and thats not the way it was. I appreciate you helping me not make a fool of myself again this way!
