If they dumped their belts and fought for the IBO Only

The WBC & WBA are shaming our sport. Larry Holmes announced in the 1980's that he was going to fight exclusively for the IBF.

In this generation we have the IBO with marque champions including Chad Dawson & Wlad. They do not have Ordinary, Super or Interim Champs, or Silver or diamond belts.

If Wlad and Dawson went IBO exclusive they would have more control of their own destiny.

Pac v Floyd for the IBO would be the ultimate snub for the so called 'big 4' belts. Other fighters surely we follow suit and the body could gain the foothold

 

The IBO are harldy the bastion of integrity, mate.

:? 'Computer rankings' aren't inherently flawed. If you mean that all rankings must be subjective, then that is fairly obvious. You wouldn't need rankings if there was an objective test.

Where the IBO rankings are notably better than other alphabetty rankings is that they appear to have less outside influence in them. I used to like the way they included other champions in the rankings, but I just looked and apparantly they don't do that anymore, though they do still note them at the top.

 

The IBO do a lot of things better than the others, but they shoot themselves in the foot by sanctioning fights between two guys outside the top 50 of the division for their vacant title. Wlad holds their HW belt, Dawson has the LHW strap (the only belt he holds) but their MW champ is PETER ****ING MANFREDO. And half their titles are vacant.

 

Yes, but they work on the premise that the initial critieria wasn't flawed. Also, they'll quite happily sanction their 'world' title between people way down the list. Which is where their credibility falls down.

They all have these titles except the IBF. If there was only one organization it would make some sense but as there are so many "world" titles and each one having there own set of other titles, they're pretty much worthless. European/NABO titles are more respected.

 

Even IBF has Intercontinental champs... its just a way of climbing the rankings.

 

They sanction fights between top 50 fighters for their title iirc. Not great, but they're a small organization so that's a defensible choice for the time being.
The only thing to like about the IBO is their computerized rating system really, and even there they should be open about what formula is used for the ranking.

The other thing I used to like about them is that they just put other organizations champs in their ranking with the others, now they've taken them out and put them above the rankings like the other orgs do. Pity, I wouldn't be surprised if some 'champs' didn't even make the IBO's top ten, it showed how much those belts are worth.

So that's just 10 titles outside of the normal IBF belt, hmmm maybe they're not as bad as the rest :roll:

Edit: Forgot the USBA title is the IBF's aswell, so that's 11.
Edit #2: apparently the USBA has both a Southern Region belt and an Atlantic coast region title aswell as the normal one, so that's 13 titles overall.
