I was just thinking about something. So as we all know Chris John is the current WBA Featherweight "Super Champion". The "Super Champion" status is given when the WBA title and another one are unified, but people like John, Sturm, Mosley and Ward are Super Champs but have not unified any titles to do so. There is a possable Gamboa/Rojas unification match in the works. Gamboa is the WBA "Regular Champion" and Rojas is the WBC Champion. So the winner will will have both titles (of course), but doesnt that mean that they will also become "Super Champion" even though John is already the "Super Champion". So will they make the winner the WBA "Ultra Champion"?:think
WBA as you pointed out can make you a Super Champion without you actually having any other belt.If you have more to your name and reputation(such as Mosley),they'll make you Super Champ because you have a big name and it makes them seem better represented amongst the sanctioning bodies.Same reason they'll make Interim,Regular,Super,Super Duper Champ(All one belt). It's their belt and it means more sanctioning fees.
Gamboa will be an interim super champion, the reg. title will then be vacant, Caballero will be promoted to that belt, then there will be a new interim champion, so, 4 champs. Then they will follow the lead of the WBC and introduce a diamond and silver belt, and possibly even a bronze belt for their mandatory contenders. 7 champs, and all within the realms of possibility. mostly.
You can't unify a WBA ordinary world title. Obviously that's according to their rulebook, so doesn't mean an exception won't be allowed by next week....
Then Chris John will be stripped and made champion in recess, and someone else will fight for the vacant title, while the regular champion is forced to fight the emeritus champion within a month or be stripped, while the regular champion is allowed to remain inactive for 2 years.
I thought that was the case. Have you read that in their rulebook recently then? (Not that I expect you to brush up on this stuff weekly)
super champions are just a scam from the WBA to make more money.. the more champions the more fees they can charge boxers :hat
