People have long since looked at boxing as a barbaric sport. All its athletes take accumulated brain damage over the course of a career to boot.

Yet many consider boxing to be "art".

Now. Let me set this straight. Art or not, it is the reality and intentions that count. Fighters are hurt, badly, and that "Art" is designed to hurt.

    So tell me.

    Why is MMA not Art?

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Performing Karate and Judo moves in a cage takes something that most just don't have. Is that not art?

Wrestling and the skill involved in BJJ. Is that not art?

Or is art confined to punching people with the fists?

    Discuss.

Ps. I am a boxing man, through and through. Always will be. Always.

    I simply hate hypocrisy.

Yeah, these tend to be people with emotional problems. Old folks set in their way, or those that have tunnel vision in therms of intellect and are not the sorts you want to hang with.

We have to rely on reason, being men.

also, the limitations of boxing make it much easier to appreciate, as art generally has limitations. just as jazz without limitations is usually called free jazz. to me, fencing will always be a more beautiful sport than MMA, just as jiu jitsu is a more beautiful sport than MMA.

i wouldn't say emotional problems. there's a generational gap some people can't fill.

that's because their best "boxer" Anderson Silva looks like a prime Roy Jones in the octagon but looks like a scrub in the ring. Imagine what the rest of those arm punchers would look like. It would be a massacre.

Some of the greatest pictures have been without limit.

Picaso would draw nonsense pics and that scored him points in the Art game.

to me it's like comparing baseball to cricket

UFC fighters will allow fighters box them, but feel their techniques are superior in terms of fighting.

Boxing fans make the mistake of arguing back. They should zip it. As a boxing fan I happily concede that MMA is more "raw" in terms of fighting. In no holds barred brawls with minimum rule enforcement, the best MMA fighters beat the best boxers.

The problem being that fist fighting is generally considered the premier method of contact when fighting. MMA is a mish mash of style that hwile is interesting is yet to be refined in the same way boxing has been. I do concede however that an MMA style is beggining to emerge in terms of the fighting style rather than just a boxer wrestler or judo brazilian ju jitsu etc etc
