Albeit after his death. And you are right, nothing beats the adrenaline rush you get from a competitive boxing match, MMA is a flat-liner in comparison. I'm bored literally as soon as they hit the deck. The best might 'fight' the best but they do it so often that the excitement levels just seem totally muted and all that man hugging is just uninteresting (to a straight man).
It is like with bodybuilders. Post one and suddenly the lounge is filled with posts about how he can't fight. I have tried this many times. Thing is, nobody said he could. I am simply saying some boxing fans are insecure in the face of MMA.
i agree. to be honest, i like georges st-pierre. i was confused when i found out MMA fans think he's boring.
Boxing is a sport with history, tradition, sweat, discipline, and standards. Boxing has produced legends. Not just amongst the sport but legends and icons for people across the globe. Boxers are disciplined into a craft that has been perfected over many generations. When I look at MMA/UFC all I see is a pathetic attempt to steal boxing's thunder. Sure, there is some talent there... but honestly, the top MMA fighter (fedor) is a fat dude. When you see them fight it's not much of a SPORT to me. Their heavyweight champ is an ex WWE wrestler for crying out loud. Boxing = disciplined sport MMA = redneck entertainment
Agreed. I think many are sore that an undisputed heavyweight champion is not necessarily The Baddest Man on the Planet anymore.
The president of UFC is insecure in the face of boxing. Didn't he move the dates for two UFC events because $ was fighting on those days?:think
that's just your ignorance shining through the gracies are legends, just not in america (and i am american for the record), and mma has given them more global recognition, but they were known regionally before that and using your example, lesnar, he was an NCAA champ...but at the time of his graduation, MMA was in it's infancy, at best...so what should he do..work at Staples for $8/hr or make some bank in the WWE?
They are both art forms. Both combat sports between two participants who both have the same goal. To inflict more damage to the other. But they are completely different sports in the sense that Boxing is one element that is the "end all be all". How boxers are working towards perfecting in this one area, the focus is greater and more direct.. MMA fighter work towards perfecting in a different way. With having so many elements to work on due to the nature of their sport, their focus is more spread out to ensure a more "rounded" repertoire. Both require talent, skill, athletic ability and dedication. I love boxing and I really enjoy MMA. It's possible to appreciate and enjoy both.
What you say of boxing is true. It is unfortunate that you have made a **** poor attempt to slander MMA. "Redneck entertainment"? You discredit your post with statements like this. Some generalizations are necessary. Some are bull. As for Fedor being fat... not only does this expose lack of knowledge in sport and fitness, but it is base irony considering the state of our marquee division.
that's not insecure, that's sound business why try and compete with the biggest draw of a sport that is in at least a little competition with your own
That's the thing, I disregard MMA. I don't want to get into it, I don't want to know about it... and so I don't. All I do is see news regarding UFC and I see people like Brock Lesnar, Kimbo Slice, Fedor, and I think to myself wow is this really a sport? These guys are champs. I just don't see it as a SPORT. There are far too few individuals within mma that can actually be considered as great. Where's the discipline and foundation?
