Mike Tyson in his prime would have absolutely destroyed any MMA fighter in the history of the sport.:deal Too much speed footwok and power for any of them to deal with.
why try and go h2h on PPV dates...that's just dumb...as this thread has shown, there are some fans of both...why make them choose only one and risk losing ppv buys i saw both fights, but i would have been forced to choose one while i would lean toward boxing, others would lean towards MMA...so even if the UFC did more buys than the boxing event, it still would have done less than it's potential, if it was on it's own date, not sharing a date with another PPV event
As you say, it is a mystery sport to many with many big names. It is also young in many ways. It has never been a standard sport like boxing for so many years, so it is going to be rough around the edges. As I say though, I am going for ice cream. I'll be back. My main message is just to tone down the hate because it backfires on boxing. Jazzo out.
Your original post stated Boxing is an art and you questioned boxing fans as to why they don't think MMA is an art. Now that we answered it you're gonna eat some ice cream. Swell. -MMA lacks discipline and foundations of a true sport -UFC president has a serious agenda against boxing
I wish I could find that interview... Anyway, Tyson stated that if he was to do it all over again at this point in time he wold go into MMA.
Yeah, I am going to eat. Sorry. Some gave decent answers, some didn't. I answered that dude. Boxing has been around for so long that it will dwarf MMA in terms of legacy.
Becasue he knows it would be easy work. The lack of proper punching technique and poor chins Tyson would have had most fighters beaten at the first press conference.
Tyson talked about his obsession and fascination with the grappling. These guys are not comic book characters. Tyson always knew what his fellow fighters could do, and he damn well respected these guys. Not all do. Hopkins devastated them by calling them.... gay! Power insult there from Bernard. But you see, even these threads get charged. Boxing fans are not comfy with MMA and vice versa. But because we are bigger we have to stop being provoked.
Pure boxers do badly in MMA. Despite what people in this thread have said, boxers don't cross over with any success. No boxer has ever held a title in an MMA organization. You'd think if it was so easy they'd cross over and clean up for some easy money. Likewise, most MMA fighters would do very badly in boxing. The sports are simply too different. MMA does not have the refinement of the sweet science yet because there's simply so much more to learn. Because of the restrictions boxers can focus on perfecting the relatively small number of tools they have. MMA fighters could pick a discipline and attempt to perfect it, but then they run into trouble when they fight someone more well rounded. A couple of generations hence, when you get kids who grew up with a boxing coach, a BJJ coach, and wrestling all through high school and college, you will see a lot more skill in the cage. Boxing, in it's early years, could be just as raw and ugly to watch. It still won't be boxing, but why would you want it to be? Boxing is boxing, MMA is MMA, watch what you like, and don't get all butthurt when other people like something else.
