Has there ever been an athlete who's retired for 2 years and come back better?

List your reasons as to why you dont believe Floyd is a better fighter then he was before. He's actually added a new technique to his arsenal, where he allows the opponent to get off the jab, pulls back then unleashes a straight right, proves that he's been at work in the gym while retired.

This is by far the strongest Floyd has ever been. Did your ****** ass predict Floyd would actually bully Shane Mosley and walk him down? I doubt you did, so how do you believe Floyd hasnt gotten better from atleast a strength standpoint?

Verno Phillips was always a C level fighter at best. Please actually provide an example of an elite level athlete or atleast one who became one.

Holy ****, kid. :-( Get a clue before you starting trading jabs on a boxing website where people actually know their stuff.

I've always had this notion that he planned to have a fake retirement under the impression that the truly great athletes retire "at the top of their game" only to come back and be dominant again. Like Jordan, Leonard and Ali before him. Thus by doing so, he probably thought it would strengthen how great people thought he was, since he would be discussed as having done the same thing as these other great athletes. A notion strengthened by the observation you yourself have made that he seemed to still train during his extended hiatus.

You havent provided one decent incite. Except to say Floyd is not better and that Verno Phillips was better after he came out of retirement, which doesnt mean anything considering he was never nothing more then a C level fighter who only once beat a champion for a title. Cory Spinks of all fighters. an SD at that

Take a minute and actually try to come up with something of substance.

Yeah, sure, come back and beat a light-weight when your a welter-weight, that's ****ing amazing! That's like me being in high school and fighting a 7th grader, and then on espn they can say how throughly impressed they were with me for dominating a 7th grader....And ducking Mosley since '98-99, I can hear the Mayweathers now, Yeah, we'll beat this mother****er in a decade Floyd, when he's 60 from actually trying to fight top fighers in their prime...

Mayweather sure is even better then before!!!

Was Floyd really retired 2 years? He announced his retirement June 6, 2008 after cancelling a rematch with Oscar.

Floyd announced his comeback on the day of the Pac-Hatton fight, May 2, 2009.

That's more like 4 days short of 11 months, according to Floyd's words.

It may perhaps be that one of the reasons FMJ took those two years off was to avoid looking like a dodger of the big and strong welterweights of the time, Cotto, Mosley, Williams and Margarito while strengthening himself to take them on after his return. How ironic that now his biggest foe is a small speedy barely welterweight.

George Foreman while having lost a lot of his athleticism was actually a better skilled boxer and accomplished at least as much as he did pre first retirement.

He fought with Hatton in December 07, then fought Marquez in September of 09. A few months short of 2 years since he last fought.

He is not better physically. That is idiotic. He is however boxing even smarter and better as far as technique, like no longer sitting on the ropes. His reflexes are not what they were, but are still better than everyone else's.

How is this new? Mayweather has always been terrific at this "pull-counter".
