Well he arguably won the second fight, but that was not a prime Ali. Stylistically he matched up with Ali well because he turned it into a jabbing battle and he showed that Ali didn't have the defensive fundamentals to cope with a good jab. Doesn't mean he matches up well with other greats head-to-head, and the rest of his actual resumé consists of Quarry, Young, Bobick and Cobb. His achievements and overall ability - while a very good fighter - does not match what the win over Ali looks like on paper. And like most, he loses to the Ali of the Williams/Terrell fights.

Not top 10. Dempsey was past his best. Tunney is still a very good fighter at HW don't get me wrong, but #4? His HW resumé is not deep enough to match that in my opinion.

Outside of that one victory, Norton doesn't have much, he certainly is not top 10.

 

You have Norton as the 10th best heavy of all time becaue he beat Ali once? A past-prime Ali?

I only rated 8 because I have not seen much of some the older fights like Charles, Walcott, Johnson, etc. I don't think Sonny Liston was a top 10 HW all time either. Or Joe Frazier.

 

And why on earth is Ken Norton in some of these?
