Ward is more than willing to fight outside of Oakland if it makes financial sense. However, Dirrell and Green are not as big of draws as Ward is. Why should he travel to another location if the money isn't as big as if it were in Oakland?
It would seem a bit odd if Ward were the only fighter not to fight away, and it may be a case that he dosent travel well, and we wont know if hes the only fighter not to travel. One thing I have noticed for Ward though is that he wont ever have faced an undefeated fighter in the Super 6
The location of the fights does seem to have made a difference. Taylor, Dirrell and Kessler all lost, fighting away from home. Then Froch and Abraham lost, fighting away from home. Should Green lose, there won't have been one away win, so it does seem to be significant. I think the referee/judges could have been a lot different, if there was a different home town fighter. I doubt Froch gets the decision, in Michigan. I think Kessler would have been outpointed by Froch. No way does Ward get away with what he did, in Denmark. Abraham wouldn't have been DQed in Germany either. I think the Super 6 is showing, more than ever, that styles make fights and the location really matters.
I've been to two of Ward's fight in Oakland. The crowd is unbelievable. And it definitely gives him an advantage. That being said, from a business standpoint, would the promoters rather have them fight in front of 1,200 at some casino in Oklahoma or 12,000 in Oakland? It will be interesting to see where the Dirrell fight is. I honestly just hope they don't go neutral site. Detroit or Oakland. There will be good crowds in both cities. Neutral site casino fights should be reserved for the Pacs and Mayweathers of the world.
If Ward doesn't travel, then I feel that fight fans outside of America have the right to call Ward America's Joe Calzaghe.
Come on man, give it a rest with all the "draw" ****. Abraham is expected to travel and he draws plenty in Germany. Unless you think it's only Europeans that need to travel.:think
As a professional, Ward has already fought in Florida, Oregon, Connecticut, the Cayman Islands, St. Lucia. He's only had two fights in Oakland. Plus, there's the gold medal he won in this event called the Olympics. Which he qualified for in Mexico and won the gold in Greece. So to say he doesn't travel well is misinformed.
So if ward makes the next round his fights should auto be at place with biggest capacity? is that the logic being used here.
he should fight outside his backyard like everybody else in the super 6,if he got to fight all his fights at home, then i think it´s unfair. All the promoters in the s6 should be willing to let them fight on even terms...
Oh yea, I'm aware of that, but he is on a diferent level now and he isn't fighting F and D fighters anymore. Now, he is fighting B and A fighters which means more people watch and a lot is on the line. This is the Super 6 and everybody has had to travel and Ward should/should have done the same in the first round. Kessler was champ and had to travel to Ward's backyard, (This is why I said "should have" traveled because his next two opponents are against Americans) Froch was champ and had to travel to Kessler's backyard, Abraham won his last fight and Dirrell lost his last fight, yet Abraham still traveled. As a Pro of course he has traveled, everybody has traveled as a Pro, even Sven Ottke had to walk a few feet to another place. lol. Also, I never said he doesn't travel well. Getting back on topic if Ward sits at home for the first round and even the next two, then Ward should be harshly criticized just as much as Calzaghe for staying in his backyard defending his title for the majority of his career.
Doesn't really matter, if he is KOing guys in Oakland it doesn't matter if he travels or not. Only begins to matter if a close fight becomes a blowout on a judges scorecard.
