Easier said than done. I can count with one hand the number of MMA fighters who can employ this type of strategy on a top-tier boxer. And to be honest, thats pretty generous.

ok fair enough, how many MMA guys can you count that would take a boxer down and submit him or ground and pound them if leg kicks didnt work.

boxers only have 1 option to punch, mma fighter can first try outbox, then kick, then at close range knee and elbow, or take down, then submit or ground and pound

how many boxers can you count on your hands who can defend against all that against a top MMA fighter

from expereince i would back the mma guy who has more skills, the boxer may be stronger in one area but the mma fighter is stronger in all other areas

MMA fights always mention the same bull****. oh boxers dont have takedown defense or they dont have to defend against kicks and all the other bull****.. but where were all the takedowns and kicks in this fight.. it was just not there.. if diego is considered a professional fighter by anybody they most be on something.. he looked like a little kid out there trying to take the other guy down.. just fight ****ing biatch and hit back

    :hat

are you kidding, did you see the knee he took in the first round, i would love to see if you would have kept fighting after taking a clean knee like that. hathaway didnt need to take diego down because his stand up was effective and diego was clearly rattled after that knee, he was knocked out for a few seconds there. thats enough to put you of your game plan.

by the way did you se all the take downs in the rampage and rashad fight,

that knee would have finished alot of other fighters, props to diego for fighting on.

That knee was brutal. I think it would have knocked out most other guys in the division. Diego is very durable.

Yeah im sure the MMA fighter will be able to outbox a boxer.

And boxers dont have only 1 option. If they fought under MMA rules they wouldnt just be able to use their hands. Thats like saying Brock Lesnar only has one option to wrestle because he sucks at everything else.

And I never said a boxer could defend against a takedown from a top MMA'er. I just commented on how awful the striking is in MMA and how MMA fans are crazy if they think some scrub grappler can out strike a boxer because hes learned kicks for 3 days.

exactly a mma fighter wouldnt outbox a boxer, but a mma fighter would take the boxer down and submit, thats why they are mma fighter, not boxers.

so when you say a boxer doesnt only have one option, are you trying to say a boxer would submit grappler

i can use the same argument, you say a mma fighter cant outbox a boxer, and i say a boxer cant submit a grappler

im not biased here, i have boxed for years before i started mma, love both sports for what they are.. a top mma fighter may not outbox a boxer, but then again if the mma fighter is a striker you never know, but a boxer will never submit or beat a mma fighter on the ground...

here's a video example. Watch from 1:30 to 2:00. This is a 5 round fight and a unification so I suppose these are two of the best MMA fighters in their division.

    Imagine a boxer in there.

If they were fighting a boxer maybe they would use a different game plan like take them out of their element and take them down you ******!!!! Cung Le also has good wrestling he uses to defend guys from taking him down. If he was fighting a boxer he would use his wrestling take him down and pound him out!!!!

You're over selling these guys. The sport is still young and that's why alot of these fighters although they are at the elite level of this young sport are not really elite fighters compared to elite boxers.

    There are exceptions of course.

It's a simple question to answer for all you boxing only fans saying "they are so bad at boxing, they would get KO'd by a boxer."

In fights where both guys, no matter how bad at boxing they may be, think they are better than the other, or that it provides the best opportunity to win, they will box.

If however they realize the best way to win the fight would be to play to their other strengths and to the opponents weaknesses.

So two MMA guys might have a shitty kickboxing match because they both feel they can win that way, due to similar ground games, or any number of reasons.

If, however an MMA fighter were to fight a boxer, they would not box, they would do anything to avoid boxing, because they want to win.

So a wrestler would ground and pound, a submission based grappler would takedown and sub
Skelton is a decent HW boxer, Erikson is almost a pure wreslter. This was while Skelton was a kickboxer, but that should help him even more, he still has a huge advantage in boxing, plus he knows how to handle kicks and knees.

A great muay thai or other more well rounded striker might do this:

Boxers aren't the only strikers. A boxer might possibly KO melvin, but more likely he would get his leg kicked in half, followed by his head kneed into the crowd.

Here is a fairly experience pro Japanese Boxer, with a fair amount of time cross training in MMA against an MMA fighter who is more rage and fury than technique; he both outstrikes him and dominates him all around on the ground.
