Eubank '97: 'I should've KILLED Collins, I Can't go toe-to-toe with Roy Jones.'

Bull****. They would have given Toney the fight of his life prime for prime, wouldnt be surprised if Eubank beat him. Prime for Prime they only have a punchers chance against RJJ, i would expect Eubank to go the distance and worry Roy a few times.

I would not expect prime Roy to knock out Eubank, that would have went the distance. Though I would probably have to go with Roy by knockout over Benn, but it would have been greatly entertaining and in no way an easy fight up until Roy landed a quick powerful punch Benn did not see coming.

 

Benn never got knocked out in one punch. Anyone who beat him had to wear him down even though he looked out on his feet in a good few fights. Jones would've done but i reckon a peak, on fire Benn would've given him more problems than he encountered at SMW.

 

Yeah, I was not necessarily saying Benn would have went down from one punch, but that maybe one of Jones' punches would have got through that he did not expect and that Jones would be able to finish him off when he was hurt.

Benn was a huge puncher, but never fought anyone like Roy, likewise Roy never fought anyone like Benn, but I honestly believe that fight would not go the distance, and I would favor a peak Roy over a peak Benn.

 

Eubank is criminally under-rated on this board, that much is true. He beat a guy (Watson) that totally owned Benn when they fought, then he beat the most ferocious version of Benn that ever entered the ring, and drew with him in the rematch. Benn's best win is universally recognised as being McLellan but I felt Benn in that fight was on the slide even though it was a great win....I think Eubank would have beaten McLellan without being knocked down in the process, Eubank in his prime had one of the best chins I've ever seen, the man was iron.

For what it's worth I'd say with 99% certainty that prime Jones would have stopped Benn, Collins and Watson, but no ****ing way would he stop Eubank. He'd out-box him yes, but stop him no chance.

 

Way too fast for anyone at that time.

 

Watson didn't own Benn at all. That fight was ferocious. Watson was great that night but Benn played his part.
And no way was Benn on the slide in the Mclellan fight, he may have just come off his peak but that was his best performance.
I also reckon Mclellan would have given Eubank big problems, especially around the time the Gman came through.

I disagree, strongly. Watson was never in trouble in that fight, he just boxed Benn to death - anyone watching it live would say the same. Benn might have won a few rounds on aggression but he was being worn down slowly, he lost to a better fighter that night and had there been a rematch he'd have lost even worse. Shame people don't give Watson the respect he deserves on here, that win was no ****ing fluke. Watson also boxed the ears off Eubank in their 2 fights, only Eubanks power saved him in the 2nd fight (corrupt judges saved him in the first fight, which he clearly lost)

I can guarantee you one thing though - Gerald McClellan wouldn't have posed any problems for Chris Eubank. McClellan would have landed his best shots and Eubank would have still been standing, smiling and sneering - that would have been the beginning of the end of the fight right there.

I don't know if McClellan would land his best shots on Eubank, but he would land in with long overarm rights as Eubank dips or leans, I believe. Maybe not too cleanly.

 

Eubank had a TEFFIFIC stiff jab. A Eubank-Toney fight would 100% depend on whether James could read it to avoid and counter or he'd be grinded down.

 

6 rounds with Benn at his best is too many rounds for Jones to escape

 

And it only gets made if Toney made weight !
