Wow so many upsets in tonights event

I actually felt bad hearing that even a few of my mates (who never watch mma) thought it was an upset but when they heard Rogan and Goldberg they looked round as if the UFC hadn't seen something like this before. How they could justify their reaction i don't know.

Also Hattaway totally dominated Sanchez i thought it could be a dodgy fight but John completely took the fight with both hands and never let go.

 

Yeah, he should have done something other than let Hathaway out strike him. He had no answer for the reach and size advantage Hathaway had.

 

Seriously, I say Jon Jones, they gave him a Vera and he busted though impressively. Unlike some prospects like an escudero who suffers setbacks against mediocre oppositions

With the exception of maybe three guys ..this list is full of win 2 lose 1 guys.

Suddenly you can't be a good prospect if you lose once or twice?

 

Certainly not in Boxing or Wrestling. You cant have an 11-4 record to start your career. Dont get me wrong, I love MMA but they need a farm system of some sort or an amateur ranks, where some can refine their skills. Losing on a close points dec is accceptable but so many of these so called "prospects" loses devastatingly.

 

Not in wrestling? Explain.

Not in boxing? Because everyone is obsessed with keeping their 0 and taking the easiest road to the top, thus boxers fight straight bums for their first 20-30 fights.

But for real your point is negated by hundreds and hundreds of examples of elite mma and boxing guys who lost a couple fights in the early part of their career. Does the name Manny Pacquiao ring a bell? Howabout Randy Couture?

 

Condit, Velazquez, Jones, Dos Santos aren't prospects anymore and to put Brilz on there is ridicules, he lost last night and I'd be suprised if he fought in the UFC anytime soon. Don't get me wrong he was game but rewatch the fight without your holy**** glasses on and you;ll see Lil Nog wasn't about to get subbed, and since when does one sub attempt and afew escapes warrant you a victory?

 

Those last two guys are more an exception than the norm. It is sometimes good to slowly bring up prospects and let them hone their skills with easy prey. The problem is that for the point of having them in a ppv and hyping them up..they rush these guys. Look at this horodecki guy, hes ruined.

 

No but winning 2/3 rounds should earn you a victory, no?

EDIT: Also can you define the term prospect so we can clear up any confusion.

 

For christsakes, Anderson Silva, Rampage, BJ Penn, Forrest Griffin, Shogun, Lil Nog, Chael Sonnen, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Nick Diaz, I could go on and on but all these guys suffered losses early in their career. Are they all exceptions to the norm as well?

No the fact is in MMA, fighters are thrown to the wolves early and the ones that persevere become elites. I'd much rather have a competitive ladder as in MMA than in boxing where all you have to do is fight a couple dozen bums to get a title shot.
