Ok. Well since you insist on trashing the resume of these atg, compare them to vitali and see how vk stacks up. I mean since holmes and Liston fought cans please expound on the credintials of great fighters like Danny Williams and kingpin Johnson.
I'm really interseted to see how you can possibly twist this around.

If you're saying Vitali Klitchko on his own merit is a top 10 HW then i shall answer with a resounding.......No.

But if what you are actually saying is that Valuev is the GOAT and therefore, like gravity, he pulls all other current HW's upward into greatness with him, then yes.

And I think....... nay, I know ........that's what you are saying.

I doubt if Farmboxer - The ESB king of Klit love would place Vitali in the top ten ATG.

IMO, Vitali is definitely TOP 10 ATG.

I always look at ATG lists from the head-to-head perspective, not resumes. Why? Well when you are comparing fighters from different eras, resumes are very hard to compare, and other eras may present better match ups than what are currently available for fighters. Imo, you can't penalize the fighter for that, because it's out of their control.

I believe that Vitali would give ANY fighter, from ANY era, a very tough fight, and he would also have a legit chance at winning any of those bouts. For that reason, he's in my Top 10.

to be int he top ten of all time at heavyweight, you have to be the MAN in the division for at least 4-5 years.

Vitali isn't even the best heavyweight going right now.

He can't ever say he was, for any particular singular YEAR , undisputedly the best heavy, but he's the 7th best of all time??

    Completely ridiculous.

you can't ignore vk in atg hw lists b/c of his size (mostly) and good ring smarts and he'd be a handful for a lot hw's on the lists (he does have a 4" size advantage or more over just about everyone). however, his opposition is amoung the worst. the bout with an older but still very good lewis means something, but lewis is almost the only fighter he fought worth mentioning. I mean his next best wins is probably a kind of out of shape corrie sanders. I don't hold the byrd loss against him but even byrd would barely be much in any other era. He is somewhere in a good spot because of his H2H ability, but it's hard to figure really. You can make similar arguments against Tyson (but his opposition is still better) and Liston (what did he have 1 title defense and he's on a lot of people's list), so I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for someone to rank him around the top 10 (though don't think i would).

    Vitali:

Head to Head: definitely Top10 ATG. I cannot think of more than a very few names who would have been able win consistently against VK (prime for prime). Most of the older ATGs were too small IMHO to compete.

Resummee (names): somewhere Top25-30 ATG list. Lost the two fights with the biggest names (LL and Byrd). Has some good, but no great names on the list (Peter, Gomez, Williams). But he lacks the ATG-names if he does not fight Wlad.

    Others:
Plus: extremely high KO-%; comeback after 4 year retirement straight to the championship by destroying the belt-holder; never been back on the cards; the only two losses were due to injuries. Is avoided by other Top10 fighters (Haye, Valuev). Gentelman out of the ring; highly intelligent and generally respectful and polite to his opponents. Always comes prepared and well trained.

Minus: Shares the top spot with his brother and thus will never establish a lineal status. Having two brothers up there was cool for some time, but it hampers them both now. He will be remembered for a valiant but losing effort against the last ATG. Demolishes his opponents in a boring dominating fashion, which turns down many boxing fans.

Summary: ATG status of at least Top20. He brings the quality, but lacks the greatness.

Most of what I wrote will ring true for Wlad as well.
