back when hopkins could throw over 40 punches per round and calzaghe had 1 punch ko power

must remember hopkins won rounds against joe by throwing less than 20 punshes per round but also joe had no punching power

Calzaghe KO1.

 

I had hopkins ahead 1 round in the fight that did happen. Joe looked like a ****ing joke in that fight with his bull**** open handed slaps. Hopkins would have ****ed him up proper if they had re matched.

 

Hopkins basically peaked as a fighter in his mid thirties and was far more active at this point.

He's a pick pocket now but back then he would have beaten the **** out of Calzaghe! Joe couldn't hit an ageing Hopkins on the ass with a handful of salt, he gets mutilated by a prime B-Hop and a prime Jones for that matter.

 

Hopkins that fought tito had enough energy in his legs to keep calzaghe away by lateral movement and counter right hands.

Calzaghe never had tremendous punching power
a decent left hand, and he always used to throw slaps, when his hands properly messed up he reverted to slapping more often.

Prime Hopkins had better KO power and a better chin than prime Calzaghe. If there would have been a Knock down in their fight its most likely calzaghe gets floored

Even in the peak of his prime,he was nowhere near a devastating puncher

The Hopkins that fought Tito, was a throwback Hopkins that was built to fight 15 rounds at a decent pace. He had the legs to deal with any fighter in and around his division, whilst being a boxer puncher too. Now if a 43 year old version manages to put Calzaghe on his ass, just imagine what he would have done back then! Calzaghe being able to punch makes very little difference in my opinion, as he was never a devestating puncher in the first place, and Hopkins has a very solid defence and chin.

That's the biggest feather in Hopkins' cap, apart from his win against a bronchitis-stricken Plodder Pavlik, who has since been exposed by a blown-up Welterweight himself.

Hopkins' career was smoke and mirrors. An out of condition and shot Joe Calzaghe clowned him, and that's with his Glass Hands, Joe "corrupt" Cortez as the referee, and despite the fact that Hopkins faked low-blows and play-acted disgracefully to buy time.

It's irrefutable.

 

Hopkins. Calzaghe is never a happy style match up for him, but Hopkins would have beaten him soundly, out-timed him consistently and followed up, worked him over inside rather than having to hug hug hug to save energy, and peppered him with a much greater variety of shots. Hopkins was totally reliant on the fail-safe lead right when they fought, and you can bet that he would have kept Calzaghe guessing much more in his prime had he had the energy and reflexes to improvise. He's the superior fighter and it would show.
